Forums - Sony Discussion - IGN : Home Impression :(

^I thought it was a type of Paris, as in "Paris Hilton"... at least I would get that one.

Toyota Yaris is one of my favorite cars. Don't bad mouth it by comparing it to Home lol.

Guys you are missing big point here.

You are hardcore gamers who are interested in sales and well being of your platform to speak on a site like this.

We are not the target for Home.

Personally I'm only interested in red bull racing when it will be released :)

that is true but .... PS3 is a 400$ console that only (some) hardcore gamers can afford to buy ...

Time to Work !

i meant the free XBLA Yaris game that was released last year. I mean since anything free is good according to a certain sony maniac, then i guess i should enjoy it, but it sucks just like home. Free does not mean good.

Sony is running out of options here

Eh no they aren't. They simply do not use their one option: Lower the price. If Microsoft can sell their base version for 160 Euro they should be able to sell theirs for under 400.

Now they may not do this because they sell decent numbers and get all the great games and are in no danger of dying. But if they want to sell more they will have to lower the price. Its that easy.

DO not or CAN not?  Here's a hint:  it's option two.  Sony is cutting thousands of jobs, financial analysts are cutting them up left and right, and their flagship console is not selling well.  I know you're going to say that the analysts don't know what they're talking about and that the PS3 has a great library and blah blah blah.  Well, unfortunately, analysts look at numbers and performance based on patterns in the past.  And right now, they're looking at a company that's cutting jobs, not selling nearly as many consoles as they were projected to sell, and basically floundering in marketing and pricing mistakes.  THAT is the kind of stuff analysts look at.  They don't care if Killzone 2 is coming out or if Gran Turismo 5 will make 2009 the "year of the PS3".  That's console war fanboy bs.  They're looking at numbers.  And right now, the numbers are telling them that the situation ain't good.

As for the second highlighted point, if they're in no danger of dying, they can just keep doing things they way they're doing them and everything will be fine, right?  Wrong.  Every company in the world is in danger of dying.  The smart ones adapt to market changes and demand.  The dumb ones don't.  Sony will fall into the category of the latter if they don't do something.  Will Sony as a company die?  Hell no.  But they are currently in the process of pulling out of markets that aren't doing well for them.  Do you really think the PS3 is immune to this?  Please.

Unfortunately, whether you think financial analysts are idiots or not, people listen to them.  Investors listen to them, shoppers listen to them, sometimes even gamers listen to them.

Look ... home is what you make it to.. I've created the solar empire which will destroy the scurge who stole the keys to my space ship !

Check out my game about moles ^

I think with home right now people are missing the point.. It's missing what it was designed to do. - Have virtual items to put in your apartment awarded from playing through PS3 games *Remember the 'lair' trophy*. And if you play a lot of games you could really deck out your apartment. I also think they need to incorporate in game screen shots for most ps3 games so you can put them up in frames in your apartment - they could do the same with the youtube support they have. Sony really needs to get off their but and patch in rewards from their first party offerings.

The whole virtual shopping mall, game room, movie theater and 'promotional' areas seem to be the focus right now, and they're not meant to be anything but a virtual website/chatroom for them I didn't expect much. I'm still wondering if there is a lot more 'ready to go' for it but they plan on not dolling it all out at once (where are the resistance, socom and warhawk areas?).

Fortifies my point that "I won't care about HOME even if it comes out now."

DO not or CAN not? Here's a hint: it's option two.

lol, of course they could. Now the question is: Does it make sense financially. Its a two year old device so I can hardly believe that couldn't make it cheaper. Now they will have to write off huge development costs. In the end its the question between a better quarter now or better quarters in the next years. They made the decision to have more money now which is valid. If it is sensible? Who knows.

Every company in the world is in danger of dying.

??? I was talking about this generation of consoles. Gamecube and XBOX died a premature death last gen because the userbase was not big enough that third-party devs would have given them full support. The PS3 will not have this problem (unless people stop buying them alltogether) It sells much better than either of these and developers essentially make all games PCPS360 now anyway. And for Sony? It has a hard time but not worse than other big asian electronic companies. Becoming a bit leaner and more focused wouldn't hurt them.
