Forums - Nintendo - Pictures shows a reason why 3rd party "core" Wii games don't sell...

Well, over the weekend, I went to Target, not to buy, just waiting for someone else to buy something), and I heard some lady say "Look, they have some GREAT deals on Wii Games"... I was in the same isle, playing the PS3, so I looked over and saw...

OH THE HORROR!!!

OK, well, anyway, the lady at least had a list with her, and she saw that none of the games her kid wanted were there, and left promptly... I however, looked through the games, and saw, So many shovelware and "casual" games, that I was tempted to ask the person in charge what the fuck was wrong in their head... There were empty slots, and I'm sure everyone can see the 2 potentially "core" 3rd party titles like Sonic Unleashed (which was practically out of sight), and Fire Emblem, and, if you want to count a third, the Force Unleashed...

Something is wrong with this picture when you have MASSIVE Wii display, there are literally 7 "Imagine" and "Petz" titles displayed, and there are slim-to-none hardcore games... Where's Okami? What about No More Heroes? Zak & Wiki? LoZ:TP? RE4? RE:UC? And don't say that they're "too old", because "Monster 4x4" is 2 years old and is holding a spot!

I can't wait to play  "Guiness World Records"!

Oh! THERE'S SONIC! BEHIND THE FREAKING DISPLAY!

Uh, anyone here want to play "Are you smarter than a Fifth Grader"? Didn't think so...

These Pirate and Movie game titles are "To DIE for"

Really? Who's going to buy a goddamn M&M game?

Hey, anyone want A Shitty Disney-version of Singstar "Sing It", or American Idol?

Oh look! A side-display! GARBAGE!

Retailers need to work their magic here... The X360/PS3 displays looked nothing like this...

Discussion?

ROTFLMAO!!! what a truck-load of crap! I'd be ashamed if I owned the system and walked by that isle.

My Walmart and Targets in the area look pretty much exactly the same.

Also people say the lead system always has tons of shovelware and yes that is true, but back in the PS1/PS2 I still clearly remember seeing Non-Sony core titles on the shelves along with the shovelware. Here in these pictures it is more like "Buy shovelware or buy a Nintendo game", leaving nothing for the 3rd party core games.

That is a hideous aisle, even my local Walmarts aisle is missing games like Zelda, Metroid, Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes, etc...

They do such a bad job at showing off the 3rd party core titles that even when Zack and Wiki sits in a ToysRus $10 bargain bin nobody touches them.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

The horror. The unadulterated horror. But hey they are going to put up front what they think is going to sell. And as DK said, those core games are going to sell to people who already know what they want rather than people who are clueless when they walk in there.

This is why I go to Toys R Us. I have an easier time finding the games I want AND I dont have to get someone to open up a glass case like Im buying a gun or diamonds.

I will admit, the OP is right. Target and Walmart are pretty big offenders for carrying a bunch of crap in their cases for the Wii Library. There are a SLEW of games I never heard of before that I have no interest whatsoever in.

Nintendo really needs to pull the reins and get some quality control going on before they license games.

Oh my, that looks even worse than the shelves at my local store. Well, what sells gets up to shelves. I bet the expanded audience loves those games.

I do agree to certain extent, in shops like GAME or HMV shelves are filled with crap games on the Wii, they tend to make deal like 2 for 1 on shovelware, also bundle Wii's with games like guinnes world record and carnival games. Retailers are simply forcing that crap upon customers.

Like its been said already, this is something that happens a lot at Wal-mart. Every time I go to one I am disappointed at how they display ALL games. Even the 360 section feels weak.

Meh, at this target, Army of Two, Cod:WaW, BiA: HH, Fable II, Gears of War 2, Halo 3, Fallout 3, GTAIV, BK:N&B, Left4Dead, and Prince of Persia were in there. Even Gears of War 1 was in there!

The PS2, PS1, and Xbox 360 have shovelware on the front shelves. I've noticed that for years. You have to search around for the good stuff. I got Disgaea 2 at a Toys R Us from dedicated searching. And most of the PS2 games were licensed games.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

OK, since I read everything in this thread here are my two cents...

You people are putting way too much emphasis on this. Yes, Wal-Mart stores are everywhere and have a lot of customers buying at their stores. But just because Wal-Mart decided to put emphasis on shovelware titles it doesn't mean that people are buying them or that's what getting attention.

We see the sales data each week. Very few of these titles actually make it to even the top 40. They are quickly released and quickly forgotten. If a copy is sold the person is a sucker.

Like its been said already, the PSone and PS2 also had shovelware titles. Its a common occurrence that happens to the most popular console. And to that guy that said that the PS2 at least had quality titles, bullcrap.

Are you honestly saying the Wii doesn't have any quality titles? Are you using what bitter fanboys are saying on the internet rather than critical and personal judgment? There are a lot of great first and third party games and if you say otherwise you are in denial, hopelessly trying to convince a point the rest of us already dismissed.

So please, anyone trying to prove that the Wii sucks simply because ONE Wal-Mart decided to showcase bad titles first is trying way too hard. Stop it.
