Geez Sony is getting dismantled on hardware and software. There's nothing positive about those numbers.

@leo-j: No. They can't afford it, especially with falling PS2 and PSP sales.
@Killergran: Are you trying to reverse-jinx this, because I think that is what is going to happen. Never doubt!

Don't count on it. They aren't suicidal. The games division wants to be profitable, and the PS2 / PSP decreasing in sales doesn't help.

Because when the ps3 was "dying" in 2007, they realized they had to cut price, which is why we saw the $399 price introduction.

Epic's Gears of War 2 won the best-selling software crown in the United States last month, selling 1.56 million copies, according to the NPD Group. But Call of Duty: World at War won the multi-SKU battle.
World at War's tally rang up just shy of the 2.01 million that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare boasted in November of 2007, with Activision's WWII shooter moving 1.41 million on the Xbox 360 and 597,000 on the PlayStation 3. November's other big shooters, Left 4 Dead and Resistance 2, landed at spots eight and nine, respectively.
Wii mainstays Wii Play, Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii each saw a huge sales boost from October, with the missing-in-action Wii Music getting a showing in the top ten. What's up, Wii Music?
01. Gears of War 2 (Xbox 360) - 1.56 million
02. Call of Duty: World at War (Xbox 360) - 1.41 million
03. Wii Play (Wii) - 796,000
04. Wii Fit (Wii) - 697,000
05. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - 637,000
06: Call of Duty: World at War (PS3) - 597,000
07. Guitar Hero World Tour (Wii) - 475,000
08. Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360) - 410,000
09. Resistance 2 (PS3) - 385,000
10. Wii Music (Wii) - 297,000
NPD analyst Anita Frazier noted that Gears of War 2 enjoyed a 13% attach rate to the Xbox 360's install base, saying, "These are the types of platform exclusive games that are so important to the continued strength of any given platform."
On the unexpected appearance of Wii Music, Frazier says "I think this is a testament to the power of a comprehensive marketing campaign and the very strong brand equity that the Wii platform enjoys."

lol....its in your post PS3 is just as costly as last year at this point in time.....it has reached price point saturation + competitors prices are down way below it = Lower sales than last year.

No Kowenicki said it was Dying not me.
And the PS3 had a price cut in the sense you got more things with it i.e games/dvds etc.. last years price cut was just a full on price cut.

I would love to know the true cost of each system (360, ps3, wii). It's hard to believe the most expensive console is most likely the least profitable, but I suspect that's the case.

Left 4 Dead did better than expected. Gears is overtracked. Call of Duty World at war did really good. I knew that the Wii is big, but this is getting out of control. With this speed, a new Zelda and some JRPGs, the Wii has a good shot to outsell the PS2. Are there still Sony-fans saying the PS3 will pass the Wii? Xbox360 did really good outselling the PS3 and the PSP combined. Well declining YoY sales is not a good sign for a two year old console, so Sony should be worried. |
Oh come on.
Resistance did even worse than we expected. Please don't spin it! 385k in one month is not good at all. Remeber this one should be the Gears of War2 for the PS3.
It did 13K lower. It was the closest call we had, and there's no reason to say it did worse.
Left 4 Dead did better than expected. Gears is overtracked. Call of Duty World at war did really good.
They did very good, but Gears was heavily overtracked. If you count R2 as overtracked, CoD was overtracked by miles as well (over 3 times as much).
The Ps3 isn't doing well, we get it. There's no reason to spin it further by saying things that simply are half-lies (nope, it didn't lack an f between i and e).

In 2007, the rest of the company wasn't in dire straits. In 2007, the other parts of the company were making enough to hide the PS3 losses. That is no longer the case.
