Also the storyline is quite deep, but your brain probably cant handle it at this point

The books might go deep (I don't know, I've never read them but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt) but that doesn't make the Halo games deep. The Halo game stories are actually sub-par even for generic sci-fi stories. But hey, thanks for the good laugh. It's been a long day and I needed one of those.

Halo games are deep, what are the forerunners tell me, who are they? who made the flood, we know the forerunners did, but why, and who are they, where is this arc? You dont call those things deep? the books go into even more detail yes, but the halo games have alot of info.

Most of all who is this gravemind, we know he has something to do with leading the flood, but who is he, and who made him? Most of all he says hes a monument to our sins, is he talking forerunners, or humans? Is forerunners humans? who knows, its quite deep, and i would almost buy halo, even if it wasnt as fun as it is, just to figure the story out.

WTF is your problem twesterm, im argueing with a complete halo hater, and it seems you want to come in here and bash another 360 game. Stop bashing on me, play the game actually think on it. It is a matter of opinion, so im not going to dip into yours.

Stop being an ass

Bash another 360 game?  What 360 games have I been bashing?  Do you mean Bioshock?  The game that I have been praising but still recognizing that it does have its flaws?  I can still love a game to death but still know that it does have things like bugs and bad pacing.  Bioshock is one of those rare gems that doesn't rely solely on gameplay (the only other example like this off the top of my head is FFVI).

With respect, twesterm, I think you may be missing the fact that Halo takes pretty standard sci-fi staples and executes them really well.

I watched an anime today called "Voices of a Distant Star". It's short -- just 30 minutes -- but most critics think the world of it. The basic story framework is the most cliche "1980's sci-fi anime" throwback you can imagine, but that story is told so beautifully and so well that you instantly forgive it.

The story of Halo is nothing special, but it is told very well.

hmm its nothing speical i agree, its been done many times before, but it is told well, there is alot of mysteries on to why this flood race is and stuff

I perfectly agree that the story is done really well, in fact, I agree that the Halo series has done some amazing things for the FPS genre and consoles in general, I just don't think the story isn't anything all that spectacular or deep.  Of course I suppose I've been spoiled on, you know, actual stories since I almost minored in English and Medieval Studies (didn't have the time) and the girlfriend majored in English and I read a lot of the things she's read.

hmmm alright ill give you that you are not purposly bashing them, and you have almost praised bioshock as much as showing its flaws, probably more.... but you have to remember, you pissed me off pretty bad, the story is a matter of opinion, and you were being a little bit of an ass.....

THe story is done well, and it can possibly be deep, it matters how deep do you want to take your mind.

Again its a matter of opinion

I see it as deep, because it has alot of unanswered questions, and i feel a huge twist is coming up in halo 3, while its not on par with games like bioshock, i still think halos story is a big booster, specially after leaving me on a cliff hanger after halo 2.

Yes alot of storys get ALOT deeper, many stories have a hidden meaning, and unless there is something big in halo, it wont get that deep. Again those stories will spoil you, some really reknown stories can get very deep with deep meaning and very emotional. BUt to me and i bet alot of the basic minded gaming community, the story is a good step into the deep in the story section.

Also different people will have diff def of deep...

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.
Around the Network

How about this, try looking at Harry Potter. If you've read the books you can know exactly what I'm talking about, if not, it's not hard to catch on.

I for one loved the series and enjoyed reading the books. While I didn't go to midnight launches or dress up, I did stay up until 5AM reading the books even though I had to be at work at 9AM. I am in fact a Harry Potter fan. The story is fun, the characters are memorable, it's actually fairly decently written, it has many things that keep you guessing until the last book, and it's just all around good. That all being said, it's not a terribly deep series. Just because we never know why Voldemort really didn't kill Harry and what keeps him going until the end the series, that doesn't make it particularly deep. It just means JK Rowling left questions open so she could come back to them later and keep the readers interested. This is a classic video game storytelling tool that works wonders and Halo uses it every bit as possible.

If Harry Potter doesn't float your boat, try looking at something like the Da Vinci Code. It's an incredibly fast paced novel that's full of mystery after mystery that keeps you guessing until the end and then even throws some more twists at you. That being said, it's actually all rubbish and not deep at all. I can't think of the phrase off the top of my head (a whee bit drunk at the moment--perhaps clean this up tomorrow) but it once against just uses a good tool to string the reader along keeping them interested. The fast paced story along with the simple fast writing doesn't make for a deep story, it just makes for a quick read that keeps readers on the edge of their seat.

-edit-
And my intention with this or any of my Bioshock comments aren't to piss people off and I apologize if I have, it's just simply talking out my ass as I usually do.  I simply don't think Halo has a deep story and it makes me laugh to think it does and I know Bioshock has its flaws even though it's a great game.  I simply find it more interesting sometimes to look at the flaws to see how to improve them or just see what the developers were up to.  It's actually part of my job to deconstruct and notice things like that and that is what I do.

so by deep story do you mean it has to have a deep meaning? like lets say the good old example of huck and finn and its deep meaning on slavery, family, and the faults of man?

im just curious, what you think deep is you gave good examples of what you dont so what do you think is deep?

Your comments didnt piss me off, just stuff like this, combined with all the bioshock, it just seems like it you were pounding into every 360 AAA title that are coming out. I guess people have opinions.

WHen you said you were laughing it sounded like you were laughing at me for my opinion, which should never happen on this site except for the select delusional fanboys

Lost tears of Kain, I think you may have initially misinterpreted what twesterm is trying to say, and now are starting to figure it out.

good story =/= deep story

Halo can have a good story without having a deep one. Am I right twesterm, Lost tears of Kain?

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

i am guessing that,
my interpretation of deep was kinda like his but also a good story with alot of questions was deep in my mind

I think to his that it has to have a deep meaning etc

either way we agree it has a good story, which shows that one guy bashing halo needs to get out
