I like this photo, Wada and Iwata making a real gaming and business deal, as opposed to this one:

Yea the Nintendo one shows business deals and teamwork and cooperation.  The other one shows thx for the money type perception.

Yeah but

Wasted in what way, exactly? It's Dragon Quest.

That's the point I'm trying to make.  It's Dragon Quest!  On the Wii!  *falls off chair*

I'm a little sour with Nintendo over their technical choices this gen.  I've been playing their games since the NES, and they've got many of my favourite franchises. Which now kills me because honestly, whether I'm an HD fanboy or whatever, I despise everything about the Wii.  But theres another time and another place for that argument, so I will go to my corner and shed a few tears before regaining my composure

*moment*.

Ok, I wonder why Level-5 isn't attached as developer though?  If they're doing it in-house - good lord S-E sort of your f'in priorities.  No wonder the quality of their titles has gone down the tubes lately.  They've got 293745 games in development.

It's Dragon Quest. It needs less technology than pretty much any other JRPG series in history.

And yes, arguing about how well it suits the Wii is perfectly on-topic. We will not be stopped for doing this, to the best of my knowledge.

And Dragon Quest is never developed in-house, don't worry.

So if Square Enix is putting a game this big on the Wii, you've got to think they intend to release some other software on it too right?

I wonder what else SE has in the works for Wii

Kingdom Hearts 3... OH SHIT *runs* *hides*

Also Seiken Densetsu 5 and Final Fantasy Haeresis XIII.

But there's a surprising lack of meltdowns in here...well besides he typical few. I can't have fun if there aren't any meltdowns (here, at least).

I guess the announcement is too late at night.

I don't think too many people didn't expect DQX to be on a Nintendo platform.  Just surprise me that its on Wii.  I thought it was either going to be DS or N6.

I knew it was going to be on the Wii, I just didn't expect an announcement so soon. Really, IX isn't even out...I'd expec that from FF but not DQ.

Hopefully since they seem to be back to a slightly faster development time, we may see DQXI before the Wii's time is up too. Then DQXII on Wii 2 (or DS2).

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

Level-5 is a must-have for this title, i hope once DQ9 is out they see this...

you know.. You gotta wonder, the way the japanese are about loyalty and such, is it possible that the reason that 360 jrpgs sucked is because SE basically took that money and ran, so to say. You would never know with them... lol

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

I hope Level-5 is not involved this time.

If the Wii was an HD console I'd have less beef with it... sure, I think motion control as a whole is lame (this goes for you too, Sony) and the "duo" controller layout makes me want to Hulk Smash all over the place, but I always use the GC controller anyway so I can get past the controller issues.   My major problem is that the visuals on an HDTV are horrendous.  Jumping from a PS2 to a Wii is alright because the graphics are about the same.  But going from PS360 to Wii makes me feel like I'm taking a huge step back in time, and I just can't really enjoy the games as much as I would like to.  It pulls me right out of the experience.

Believe me, I want to like the Wii (Zelda ftw!).  I just don't.

It's all about the game.

You are not going to be treated so kindly with that kind of opinion around here.  But yeah, I went PS360 this generation for the same reasons even though I like Nintendo and Sony much better than I like Microsoft.  Tales of Vesperia, SO, WKC, and FF 13 is a preview of what we will see regularly in about 10 years from now.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
