Forums - Sony - Blu-ray Surpasses DVD in Japan for the first time

"According to the latest GfK Retail and Technology Japan data, Blu-ray recorders broke the 50% barrier during the first week of November, meaning that unit sales of Blu-ray recorders surpassed that of DVD recorders for the first time ever. Compared to the same time last year, when Blu-ray's market share was only 10%, the format has shown rapid growth."

Hopefully 2 years from now it will be the same WW.

Oh, I thought you meant software sales from reading the title

Anyway, still good news for Blu-Ray uptake

Good, I thoroughly enjoyed Transformers: Animated Movie on Blu-Ray.

This says Blu-ray recorders...

I'm guessing that its not exactly player/set top market share...

This is recorders, not straight players or movies.

That likely means people taking advantage of the extra space (even a single layer disc to burn on is nothing to sneeze at), but this is just for one part of the market.

So the title of that story and this thread is really deceptive.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Good the the market. This is great news for the BDA.

It seems that Japan may want HD movies, just not HD gaming.

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Wow, that caught me off guard. I knew it sounded too extreme to be true, though.

Blu-ray recorders broke the 50% barrier during the first week of November, meaning that unit sales of Blu-ray recorders surpassed that of DVD recorders

Note the key word: Recorders.
