Forums - Nintendo - Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon thread of stats, characters and hardship

Ok, about to go to Endgame (Finally, work has been brutal last few weeks).

I have:

Marth (27)
Frey (20/7)
Abel (20/8)
Hardin (20/6)
Ogma (20/4)
Barst (20/4)
Castor (20/4)
Merric (20/8)
Lena (20/10)
Radd (20/6)
Tiki (15)
Linde (13)
Minerva (9)
Xane (9)
Shiida (20/1)
Elice (10)

(With Abel deliberately dead in the previous Chapter I have 1 extra character in Endgame, due to the Aum staff. I don't think Elica will be very good, but at least she can weild Physic and Fortify)

Somehow my stats seem a bit low. But I really can't see how I could get them much better (No Gaiden in this playthrough) without knowing upfront which units to level. Anyone have units at 20/20?

Congrats on the Hard **** rol!

Your stats are alright, I had similar ones on my three playthroughs. The trick to get more characters past 20/10 is to kill the reinforcements on all the maps which have them. Chapter 24 has tons of them and you can collect a lot of EXP there. I haven't done this on my previous runs, but since I plan to beat the game on hard ***** without a single unit dying and everyone recruited, I will do it this time. I am in chapter 8 now and both of my healers have already level 17.

I always did kill all the reinforcements, but I have lost quite some EXP to characters I wanted to try their growth and usefullness, mostly early in the game. Also Tiki level 15 in 4 chapters costs a lot of EXP, but is definitely worth it.

Now playing Hard ** and only using my Endgame members. In the beginning this was too hard though, everyone is severely underlevelled. I even needed Jagen a few times in the first 3 chapters. Also playing the Gaiden way, which makes things a bit easier, since characters can be used as a shield. It does feel a bit strange to deliberately send characters to die.

Does anyone did Clas Changes? What's the best moment, before or after promotion? And anyone have advice for a good Archer?

Is it just me or does do you start out with way to much units in this game ?
I also got a firestone somewhere during a city visit but what am I supposed to do with it ?

How can you possibly misspell QWERTY? It's spelled correctly on the damn keyboard.

Yeah the amount of units in the game is ridiculous. It really made me care less about most of them. Especially the chapters where you gain 5 characters or so. I can hardly remember the names. My second playthrough is much better. I play the gaiden way, so everyone above 15 characters has to die, which means most of them.

I did a Class Change on Shiida to Archer, but this made it impossible to recruit Jake. Don't know if this is a glitch. Maybe I forgot to visit Anne's house though.

Sedgar is a General in this playthrough and he's maniac, really. Almost invincible at level 7 already if it wasn't for low RES. Insane. Wolf is a Hero and very good as well. I think I'll make Cain a Archer. Anyone know if Archers are just as good as Rolf/Shinon in the Radiant games? As in that they have very high CRIT?

So I just started the game. Currently on Normal to play the prologue, but I'll probably change to Hard * or Hard ** after the prologue.

What is really the differences between the Hard versions (nevermind, the game probably states that).

Edit: I ended up with starting on Hard *

And Yay! The same guy that I gave away was the one that we now didn't have =)

Already love this game. It has a great feel to it, but the music isn't quite as good as in 6, 7 or 10 (but slightly better than 4,5, 8 and 9).

I really want a healer soon though... My strategies are incredibly dependant on having a healer... Having played 5 (including prologue) chapters, and not having a single one is getting kinda hard.  Especially as changing to Hard * made my units go back to lv 1!

Okay... Is Marth ridiculously underpowered early in the game? I mean, he hits 7 dmg (and ~ 85% chance of hit) and the axemen deal 18 (with 70-75% chance).

In all previous FE's (4-10) I've felt that Sword > Lance > Axe (with my type of playing). Now, I feel that sword-users are inferior like heck...

This game is actually pretty hard (Hard*). It's definitely more difficult than 6-9. It's about as hard as FE:RD, but they took out the battle-saves.

I love that =P

I feel mages are pretty awesome in this game though. I might have gotten RND lucky.

I have Shiida (tank mage, can you believe it?), Lena and Linde as mages.

Marth's just lvl 7 though, and I have trouble leveling him, as he feels kinda crappy.

Wow, this thread died off before I felt I was long enough into the game to read without getting over-spoiled.

This is my 2nd favourite FE. Just a tad behind FE:RD.

I mean, it is completely different than the other ones, but that may be because of the mecanics are like that (Fe 4 + 5 is one type, 6, 7 and 8 is another, and 9 & 10 another one. Thus, 1-3 is also one).

The game even opens for far more advanced tactics than the other titles, as you have a lot more room.

Right now I'm at chapter 24.... 22 & 23 were piece of cake (warp staff + 2 generals and no enemy mages = win), but I'm having a bit of trouble here.

I managed to kill the boss in the 1st round (Shiida flew down with dragonpike and killed him), and I could just warp down Marth and win... But that wouldn't be fun.

Either way I go, the enemy respawns 6 enemies every 3rd round. That's damn impossible to deal with.

I warped Ogma (general) + Linde (sage) down to the temple, and rooting them from there.

Anyway, my characters are now:

Marth - Lv 12

Shiida (Dracoknight) 20/12

Barst (General) 20/19

Lena (Sage) 20/14

Linde (Sage) 20/15

Ogma (general) 20/19

Minerva (Dragoknight/Paladin (I swap)) 20/8

Wrys (Bishop) 20/2

Roshea (Bishop) 20/1

And that's really all I use. It's just 9 characters, but they work like a charm.

I'm on Hard **, and it is definitely hard, but I'll give Hard *** or **** a try as well.

@Oyvoy: The thread didn't die. Just like the Radiant Dawn Thread it slowly grows. Besides the US doesn't have this game yet.

I can understand you have trouble, though. But I think your Endgame will be horror with this team.

a) Why is Marth only level 12 in Chapter 24? That's way underleveled. I hope it's a typo and it is Lvl 22.

b) Only 9 Characters? You're in for trouble later, I can promise you that. And you haven't picked the best ones either...Two Bishops, but not Lena? Lena is by far the best healer in the game. 2 Sages, but not Merric? Idem, although Linde comes close. And no original Paladins, while Frey, Cain, Hardin and Abel are all superb units?

c) Your class swaps make no sense to me: Why make Minerva a Paladin, when you have loads of amazing Paladins at your disposal? Why make Barst a General, when he's a superb Warrior? If you love Generals, you should use Sedgar and/or Wolf. Although they're too good actually. Ogma is a very good Hero, no need to swap.

This is a great game, but I hate the fact that the story is so gimped. Also I liked some of the stuff like BEXP, Class Change based on level, not on item. But I especially miss the dialogues in this game. It really makes it the worst FE I played so far. Still awesome, though.

I don't make my decisions on which characters I use based on how good they are - I make it after how much I like the character  (and that's sometimes just by appearance). I'm just fine by choosing crap people.

And I don't really use the Bishops. They're more there as secondary people. They kill off anyone with 10hp or less left.

Oh, and I didn't really use Marth... I have no clue why really.

And Yay! I'm in for trouble later :D. One of my few complaints are that the chapters from 15 and out are far too easy.

I agree with you that the lack of a great story and such isn't that awesome, but the gameplay is actually close to being my favourite (might outedge Radiant Dawn on that one).

Oh, and who the heck is Merric?
