i would say an hour for every hour

On the Wii it records all time played ever, so with enough hard work you can figure it out exactly.
I happen to have a fairly consistent amount of play time every week, so I just estimated. Odds are, I am a tad high on my play time estimates, but not by too much.
PS3 has been my most expensive by far. I'm going to guess I've paid $100/hour at this point.
But I will eventually buy Valkyria Chronicles!
I could go and tally up all my play time on the Wii, but its not worth the effort.
I still have no way of estimating my SNES, N64, GC, GB, and GBA play time though.

I barely played it. It came with my PS3, otherwise I wouldn't own it. Metal Gear is not for me.
Hmm...

Now these averages are pretty accurate for me, but my PS3 continues to get cheaper per hour because I have begun playing it more than before, and of course, I have over 1200-movies in my collection that I will continue to watch on my PS3 (it's a great up converter)..
And my Wii as well, I've become quite the MarioKart Wii racing addict, so it's getting cheaper per hour everyday.

Erm.... roughly £600. And time spent is somewhere between 2500 and 3000 hours.
So about 20-25p per hour, pretty good
rough estimate for this gen...(including systems and costs of gifts) about 88 cents and hour.

You actually pose a difficult question which intrigues me I usually calculate per game.
Console $300 with five games included.
Live service $66 spent
Games purchased new 7 cost 60$
Games purchased used 3 average cost $12
Download content 2 average cost $12
Total cost $846.
True value Console+20 games+HDVD player.
Average hours played per week 25.
Number of weeks 80
Total $2.36 per/hour
I am quickly getting my moneys worth on my 360, but ironically I am doing better on my Wii being that I did not purchase the console or the first game for myself. I am averaging $1.80 with only three game purchases, and a hundred hours play total. Were I to have actually purchased the console and the first game I would actually be closer to $5 per hour of play. So that is some expensive kicks. I do not think I have ever gotten so little use out of a console.
I would say my average best value in consoles would have to be the N64. Which raked in over 6000 hours of use over twenty games in five years. Which equals out to all of 20 cents per hour. For those familiar with dollars that is $.2 per hour I have such a long way to go.
