In a little over 2 months time, a game called Killzone 2 (you may have heard of it) will be released. After a barrage of videos and stills, it is shaping up to be the best (in my opinion) looking and best technical game overall on any home console. Yes, it's an FPS and some people don't like those, yet, the game after near 4 years of development is nearing completion and it's simply stunning.
Okay, now onto what I want to talk about!
It has taken a year or two for the PS3 to come into it's own graphically and technically and even though still at the moment, 3rd party multiplatform titles are generally better either graphically or technically (even if only by a small margin). We know that normally 1st party titles whether it be for the PS3 or 360 are generally technically better than 3rd party because they are tailored to one system hence getting more from the hardware generally. Look at Gears of War 1 & 2 for the 360 and Uncharted & MGS4 for the PS3.
Now with K2 (Killzone 2) coming out shortly how will this affect the marketplace? K2 is IMO significantly better than any other game on the market at the moment technically and with games like Uncharted 2, GOWIII and Heavy Rain coming round the corner could be see generally a more significant gap in quality from 3rd party multiplatform titles?
Well I think so!!
So what will happen? Will 3rd party multiplatform developers start getting help directly from Sony (or their 1st/2nd party developers like Naughty Dog, Guerilla Games and Insomniac) or will they dedicate more time to their PS3 versions of their games? Or will we see the return of platform specific titles?
On thing is for sure, is that the PS3 is now starting to hit it's stride after 2 years and I reckon we will see significant strides in technical and graphical performance over the next 2-3 years from the console. The 360 on the other hand has done well and has some great looking and performing games, but it just seems that it's cap is vastly approaching, and although technically, it's a great consoles and it does things at the moment better than the PS3 (in a multiplatform basis), the exclusive games are generally better technically on the PS3 than the 360 with the exceptions of the GeOWs.
So what will happen?
