Forums - Microsoft - I was wondering how a 360 Slim would work then it hit me ....

No Slim Arcade. Sell the Slim Pro's and Elites for the same price/or cheaper as the current models. Just like a Sony slim PS3, if players wanted it they would have to buy it and sell their current PS3 (or keep it) the same can be done for the 360.

You wont NEED to update to a 360 slim, if you do you will have a harddrive come with it so you don't need to worry about that. They could bundle one of those harddrive transfer kits.

As for taking your 360 slim harddrive round to a friends house (and vice verser) they could bundle (with all consoles) a connection kit for the two, in the form of a cable or something else, won't look pretty but it solves the problem and you are only taking it over to play games on your friends 360.

they could always make it so the HDD on a "slim" Xbox360 fits in to the side of the console instead of the top but is the same HDD, would be a lot simpler.

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

I thought about that but it would look ugly.

We've always got the option of paying Ben Heckendorn a few grand to make the 360 more portable.

Microsoft should buy a shipment of wiis and give them the red ring of death ability and a MS logo and sell them as 360 slims, sales will boom!

If at first you don't succeed, you fail

it's possible but for m$ is harder
they are mainly a software company

their hardware always have something. power source burning the xbox, rrod 360 even their zune are unreliabe but certainly better than ipods.

that kind of revision generally comes at the third year and we haven't seen it yet, not even a leak.

so if they are planning one when they are going to released it the 4th year of 5-7 life time?

Who says we need a "slim" design? It's only been a Sony trend with PS1 and PS2 to offer smaller versions later on. The Xbox never went slim, the Gamecube or N64 never went slim/smaller. Why would the 360? I don't think it needs a slim model. If anything, they should keep the same casing, then when the newer chipset with a combined CPU/GPU comes out, it will mean even better airflow and reliability!

It's harder for Microsoft to do a slim because the power brick is already outside of the console.

Like the PStwo was damn easy to make because there was a huge hole for peripherals in the PS2 which they got rid of, took the psu out of it (which got rid of the fan) and used a top loading disc drive. I don't think that much inside it changed at all.

Microsoft can't do any of that with the 360, other than change the drive.

I'd be happy if they could enclose the power supply into the box so you didn't need that huge power brick.  If they did make a slim model they should make it look like the HD DVD add on drive.  Not very elegant but compact and portable.  Change the drives to 1.8inch ipod style hard drives.

I doubt their will be a slim 360 because so far their are no plans by MS to move towards 45nm chip sets; which is essential in order to have enough hardware shrinkage to make a slim version of the 360.
