The reason why the President is supposed to be a natural born citizen is to prevent him/her from having an allegiance to another country ...

It is a little outdated being that someone could live in China from the time they were 2 days old until they were 35 and they could become the President of the United States of America, while a child who was born in Canada while his/her parents were on vacation (and lived their entire life in the United States) couldn't be president. The spirit of the rule is still valid, but there may be no way to actually make the rule workable.

As if someone who IS a natural born citizen would never have allegiance to another country?

That rule gets more ridiculous each time I look at it.

Let me think about this one. Movie is about a U.S. soldier captured - in Asia - and brainwashed and tortured. Comes back to a hero's welcome and gets fast-tracked in politics. Ascends to the top of his party and is nearly president. The Commies were hoping he'd be President so he could hand them the U.S. on a platter.

Reality - McCain is captured by the North Vietnamese - in Asia. No one knows if he's been brainwashed and tortured. Comes back to a hero's welcome and gets fast-tracked in politics. Ascends to the top of his party and is nearly president.

Did I miss anything?

Hmmmm ...

I wonder if Bush was brainwashed aswell by some commies.

@ Konnichwa - no, that's just stupidity - or just letting Darth Cheney run his shadow govt.

Lies madskillz! Karl Rove was as important or more important than Dick Cheney in controlling Bush! Stop spreading your lies!

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Why should it matter if heis born in the USA or not? Doesn't any resident of the USA haves the right to be president?

Nope, you have to be a "natural born citizen." Which is kind of silly in my opinion.

 I agree it is silly.

Silly, but the law.  These things really should be fixed through the correct channels and not just by ignoring BS.

Funny too since the last time people wanted it changed the Democrats were the ones against it... because they were afraid of Arnold Swartzneggar or something.

The one thing in politics that still amuses me is how the vast majority of the lawmakers opinions on issues seem to exactly change with how much said issue helps or hurts them.

A government unwilling to change stupid laws and instead just ignore them is one crappy government.

Ummm, Bush was never captured, never a prisoner of war, just a prisoner of Coke. Unless you were there with McCain, you don't know if brainwashing went on or not. Even McCain doesn't know.

Just watch the movie and see for yourself. The Sinatra version is the best one - but the newer one with Denzel is prolly the only one you can find for cheap.

Either that or if you have an actual working idea of how brainwashing works.

The Manchiran candidate and stuff like that is complete fairytale BS.

Brainwashing works differently.

Personally if you were born in this country i'm not sure i understand how losing your citizenship then regaining it get srid of the "Natural born" part.

I'm not an Obama supporter (I voted for McCain), but with that being said, even if he was born out of the 50 states, he's still a U.S. Citizen by default because his mother was.... hell, my wife's father was born in Germany.... but he's still a U.S. citizen.

The election is over people, so get over it... try again in 2012 and stop whining.

I certainly don't believe this rumor is true in any way shape or form, but I'll just post it for conversation's sake:

Technically that isn't true since she hadn't reached the age required by statute for her citizenship to pass on automatically.
