So like the title says, do you think Sony will finally stop producing PS2 units in 2009 or will this console still refuse to die?

No reason for the greatest console to grace the earth to die any time soon. Besides if demand dies a $30 price cut will just bring it up again.

The PS2 will not die in 2009. Sony still has at least 100 more titles to be released on the PS2. After those games are released, the sales will decrease bit by bit. I predict 2010 it will discontinue. However, it really depends on when some people will finally move on to the PS3, which will take awhile.

I think it'll be discontinued middle of '10, with a $99 price point Xmas '09.

No, the PS2 will start to be manufactured in Brazil in the around May '09, Brazil has the potential to be as big a market as UK/Japan, the only thing stopping it is piracy and poverty, the minimum wage is still low but much better so the poverty line is improving and, making a long story short, they can make the PS2 much more affordable there when they manufacture the units there, if they can make the PS2 R$ 200 it would sell like hot cakes, more realistic though it'll be around R$400.
