Forums - Gaming Discussion - FF 1-4, which versions best to play?

I want to play FF1, FF2, FF3, FF4 since i missed them. Should i play original versions(NES/SNES) or will i get best experience with FF1 and FF2 anniversery editions on PSP, and with FF3, FF4 remakes on DS?

I shouldn't really be speaking, since I never played any FF games before last month, but FF4:DS is fantastic. I can't imagine the original being much better than this, if it was.

I think that FF1&2 would probably be best experienced on the PSP, though Final Fantasy Origins on the original Playstation was also fantastic and can probably be found for cheaper.

I'd recommend the DS remakes for the other two - FFIII because it was never ported to English in any other form, and FFIV because it's just the best version.

I hope you have fun with them. They're all pretty awesome.

Well the best way to play them is FF3 & FF4 on DS and then get FF1 & 2 together on GBA cause the graphics aren't really improved on PSP except for some lighting and effects and you get 1 & 2 together on GBA plus the extra bosses, etc.

But personally FF4 is in my top 10 games of all time and much better then any other FF game.

@MaxwellGT2000, you mean start from playing FF3 & FF4 on DS, and then FF1 & FF2? Why not from FF1?
So PSP versions of FF1 & FF2 don`t have GBA content?

Overall, FF1 & FF2 on PSP or GBA, while FF3 & FF4 better play remakes, and not the original ones.

Looks like nobody prefer NES/SNES over new versions of FF 1-4. =)
I mean, i won`t be missing anything, if i won`t play original versions, right?

Right. You're not losing anything...unless you enjoy spending hundreds of dollars hunting down games that are no longer being produced.

Go with the new stuff, you won't be disappointed.

As long as you aren't playing the PS versions, they're all good. I would say for FF and FF2 go with the PSP. For FFIII and FFIV go with the DS versions.

The PS versions of FF1 and FF2, ironically, were not murdered by load times in the same way as the SNES ports were.
