Forums - General - ioi should add estimates for titles distributed online to physical sales.

Like the title said .You could argue that it would affect the integrity of the sales data but it's already affected by the fact that Vgchartz is undoubtedly tracking some games (especialy those availible on the PSN network and at retail ) below their actual sales performance.

My proposal is that games that are heavily distributed online aswell as physcial should have an assumed sales boost of at least 10% of the titles physical sales.

  • The Warhawk (Potentialy a million seller)
  • Siren Blood Curse (Not being tracked in US or Others for some reason)
  • Socom Confrontation ( Potetnialy a million seller)
  • Grant Turismo 5 Prologue

The problem is that you can't arbitrarily add 10% to everything. If ioi had access to the numbers to estimate a game's online sales and track them to find overall trends, I'm sure he would. The problem is that no one is releasing numbers for online sales, at least not as far as I've seen.

To estimate Live numbers, Stickball had to create an ingenious system of cross-referencing player numbers and extracting sales trends from it. Not an easy thing to do and it only works if you can find a way to correlate the two.

You can't just guess. If there is data avaliable, it should be used, otherwise just leave it

But wouldn't it be fair to at least attribute 10% of online sales to game which are pushed heavily online as well ? it's likely to be more for the titles I state but 10% should be more within the margin of error.

The games should at least state online sales aren't being included...i'm sure Vgchartz has issues with other media outlets about their data integrity but this can't help.

Still, it's better to leave off all online sales and notify people of that being the case than it is to randomly affix +10% to all sales, realizing that number may be way off the mark, causing disingenuous information to be presented to the public.

To simplify, it's better to say "X sales do not include online sales" than it is to say "X sales + random 10% thrown on include some online sales but we really dont' know if it's accurate".

Yeah makes sense , at the very least we should have some sort of disclaimer stating that the sales data may be incomplete due to online sales.
