Forums - Sales - How long will it take Wii's top sellers to plateau?

These graphs represent the three top sellers on the Wii and 360 respectively; notice any differences?

The Wii's top games simply refuse to flatten out in sales.  It has to reach a saturation point and flatten someday, but when do you think that will be?  If I were to only base it off of how similar DS games have performed, I'd say the games will continue to climb for at least another 2 years--which is astounding.  If it truly doesnt flatten, by that point the 3 combined will be pushing 90-100million total units.

The idea that the Wii has three games that could break the 20 million barrier is something I've never really considered before. Especially without being bundled.

Has any system ever done that? It's not even close, right?

Only the NES was as close, but it had Super mario bros bundled to help, and it still fell short (Super Mario Bros 3 only sold 17.3 mill).  I didn't include Wii Sports because its bundled in most territories, but if i had it would be 4.

i dont know if they will before the life of teh wii

unless we see seconds and maybe thirds in the series

other wise they will just keep getting bought by the people entering in the wii world

It's almost a given that we won't see sequels during this hardware cycle, the original games are making too much money on their own.

The idea that they could sell at this rate for more than another year is utterly terrifying. I refuse to contemplate it.

Wii Play will probably never flatten out unless they release another cheap game with a controller. Right now, you buy a Wii and need a second controller you buy Wii Play.

Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii are a different story. Currently ~1/4 Wii owners have Mario Kart Wii. Also, it sells to ~2/5 of Wii Purchasers (last full weeks results). Since that is no small value, I believe we will continue to see high sales for these titles for quite a few years. They will be the Nintendogs and NSMB of the Wii.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Any predictions on lifetime sales for the big three, nordlead? You see 'em all topping twenty million, or even more?

I haven't really thought about it, but Wii Play could easily top 50m lifetime the way the Wii is selling. This is assuming the Wii sells around 150m lifetime, and Wii Play get a 33% attach rate, which isn't unreasonable.

As for the other two, I could see them both doing 25m or more. They are currently outpacing Wii Play and have vastly outpaced Nintendogs, which is currently at 20m, and they show no signs of slowing down. Last week alone MKWii sold >400k, and Wii Fit sold >580k
