actually this looks to me like the dog was raised with an invisible fence system and is treating the cans as being similar to the flags that those systems use. in a lot of cases, once the dog makes the connection between the shock and the flags(or whatever object it is) it won't go anywhere near those objects, even if it wouldn't actually activate any shock.
