VgChartz has the chance to become the primary source for videogame sales on the net.Im thinking similar to gamerankings being the primary source for reviews, and gametrailers being the site for trailers.Theres certaintly a big demand for sales data on the web, especially european sales.

it will not get very popular if what i am now reading in blogs is true. according to some posts ioi does not have retailers but employees of retailers that work at the register providing him with sales data that he then mixes with data from companies like media create. can someone verify this is true? if it is then there is a serious problem.

^lol, how exactly did people on other forums find that out?

Or perhaps it is just a rumour There is certainly no "mixing" with other trackers data, if there is a massive discrepancy with MC/NPD/GFK then some adjustments are made [though with NPD it seems ioi often has to re-adjust back to where he was before]

Actually weren't you the one who posted NPDs December USA data, but claimed it to include Canada too stating VGC was clearly off by a lot?

I have a feeling your account here may be purely to discredit thee site if I am correct in remembering that.

that is right. i am the same guy that posted the canada #s. my question to you is what is wrong with raising questions? is this blind faith we are all to have here? jeeze. the only point i am making is there is no way we will be taken serious if we always adjust to others numbers. this basically means we are shoplifting data does it not? i don't know for sure but that is how it appears to bloggers. i am only asking. questions like this will make us better.

the sky is the limit. I just hope this site doesn't become like gamespot. I use to like that site, but now i barely even go to it anymore.

Its already in top 5000 in US and UK definantly think it will get top 5000 WW

Lets compare to the top tracker for movie grosses - Box office mojo

its rank is 5,489 and 1,577 in the US

are video games more popular than movies? as BOM is mainly US based and VG Charts Worldwide based i think VG will certainly crack top 5000 this year.

Well when you consider how accurate ioi usually is with his numbers when compared to MC/NPD/GFK numbers,it really shouldnt matter how many retailers ioi tracks as long as hes accurate.

In regards to making adjustments to other tracking firms, its only done when there is large discrepencys between VgCharts and the other trackers.I think ioi is right to do this as it only adds to the validity of the numbers on the site.

Well I checked your posts [the first one] and I am sorry, you were not claiming wild innacuracies like I remember, but you did post US only numbers and claim them to include Canada, which they didn't (NPD Canada was out about 5-6 days later I think) I think you may be right to ask such questions, but using a rumour from another forum about how ioi gets his numbers is surely based much less on fact than our own faith in them. ioi adjusts only when needed, which lately [past 3-4 months] is almost never. It is not shoplifting numbers because firstly they are free for the public to see and use anyway, and secondly they are [were] only used to adjust ioi's calculations from his own hard numbers, which should help serve the purpose of not needing to adjust in the future. edit: can I also ask who you were previously because you said something about a new account in your first post?

I love this site but ioi still has so many things to improve on, the software tracking was very bad in december, while i'm pretty sure his Europe numbers are off aswell. The numbers are just to hard to track. Along with his database missing lots of sales data for games.
