Forums - Nintendo - Which 3rd party will be first to invest big bucks on a Wii game?

Ubisoft was the first, but EA is really stepping it up a notch.

Around the Network

SE, Ubisoft, and EA will/have earn(ed) a killing from the Wii.

Maybe Rockstar will make a GTA game! thaaaat'd be nice

As stated beforehand... Ubisoft was first. I can see SE/Capcom up next.

I don't see how a lot of you can rate Red Steel along side games like Mario Galaxy or Twilight Princess not to mention the big titles on the other systems which eclipse even those 2 in terms of money. Hell, there were many games from last gen which topped Red Steel's budget never mind this one.

Was RS a cheap game? No.

Does it match up to the biggest games on other systems? Not even close.

Seriously, when has a launch game ever pushed the envelope in terms of investment? Mario 64 maybe it was still outdone by OoT & I'm sure games like Perfect Dark and CBFD.

As far as development budgets:

SE has FF:CC in the works that looks pretty high budget.

Red Steel 2 will probably have a higher dev. budget than one did.

Samurai Warriors Katana doesn't look cheap.

Some multi-plat games: MoH2, EA Sports, etc.

But I don't think there is ever going to be much. The whole idea is that developers can make games on the cheap.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Cheap yes, but only in comparison with 360/PS3 games. I see no reason why budgets which were reached on last gen consoles can't be matched if not exceeded on Wii. FF is definately one of the bigger projects but I still wouldn't say it will be up there with the PS2 FF games as at the end ofthe day it's a spin-off. Red Steel is a possibility, on a slightly different topic though I can't see this game receiving the same hype as KillZone2 even though they're both based on average first installments.

I could also think of Sega announcing something big for the Wii. Maybe TGS will tell.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that the FF:CC - Crystal Bearers is being funded by Nintendo, like Microsoft is doing with Mystwalker (Blue Dragon, Lost Odessey, etc.)

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

I think you're right.  They are publishing it so I think they are doing the assisted development deal (same thing Sony is doing with Heavenly Sword, Lair, etc.)
