Forums - Sales - Black Friday NA SALES UP!!

I can't say I'm surprised at Wii/DS sales by any means. I expected it.

As for the 360 sales, that is mighty impressive, good job MS.

I'm disappointed with PS3 sales =/. Though, I expected it with no price drop, it was bound to happen.

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

Even though Wii dosent need a price cut, its really scary to think about what will happen if it does get a price.

The Wii would be making at least 1 million per week. At least that's what I think

Nintendo sales this holiday will not be equaled by another company for a long long time.

Well despite the common thought of lowering the price will equal a certain percent of increases, this is unfortunately not true.  It really just depends on potential I suppose.  Did 360 have the potential to sell a large percentage more at $200 rather than $300?  The answer is yes.  If you ask the same question for Wii you wont' get a yes.  Wii is hitting amazing sales right now, at the top of mainstream appeal, and has quite a brand dominance.  $50 price cut won't hurt that but its hard to imagine it being able to expand too much on that as well.

Of course I could be apsolutely wrong and maybe my potential for Wii is still on old standards.  With the ever expanding market its possible potential is still great for the Wii.  I know it is, at least in Europe and Asia, but I'm doubtful about places in America and Japan.  But when Ninty eventually drops the price of the console in late 2009 or summer 2010 I guess we'll find out eh.

It hard to imagine we ever thought the DS was going to be a flop...

I still remember the masses scoffing at the gimmicky 2 screens.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

How about them next year? Even if DS tapers off slightly, the Wii should be on the upward slope...

Have to agree with Hauraman and say these numbers are possibly severly undertracked for the 360. Reports from retail and even Microsoft say the 360 outsold the PS3 OVER 3-1 this week, it has been confirmed by the stores. These numbers mean it just made it into 2-1. So i think either the PS3 numbers have been increased to save face or the 360 numbers have been decreased to stop the obvious threads that would assume. If PS3 sold 200k then 360 HAD to have sold MINIMUM 600k.
While i appreciate VGChartz do their best from the sample data they get they are in danger of potentially being 200k-300k out from the official NPD data when it is released in just over a week. If that happens then it will raise a lot of questions as that is a mighty huge amount of numbers being out.

Either way nice numbers all round really! Plus that also means 360 outsold PS3 by 600k in just 2 weeks. That is major amounts of numbers, almost Nintendoesque! Well done Wii60. PS3 is meh, i think those numbers are major over-tracked for it again.

Actually, I think you mis-read Microsoft's statement.  If you look closely, they actually said 3-to-1 for Black Friday Weekend (3 days, not 7).  I think VGC's numbers are probably pretty close for the week as a whole.

DS is always hard to judge because unlike a home console, its more for the individual rather than a home.  So sales potentially could keep going up.  Remember E/O region is ever expanding and right now so is the American ones.  More people meaning they'll want one for themselves.  This is unlike with Wii expanding considering it'll expand to a household instead of a multiple people within that household.  Always gives DS the ability to keep hitting peak years as long as it keeps expanding.  DSi also should help in offsetting any possibility of loss as it covers up for Japan and eventually the other areas in 2009.

I mean its hard to think but 2009 could top 2008 for DS.  And I do agree that 2009 will probably be the peak year for Wii if it follows normal cycles.

All I know is I'm going to have to eat my words eventually because I had previously thought Wii would never hit 100 million.  I think that's just a silly assumption now.
