Forums - Gaming - 360 vs PS3 - The Battle of Multiplatform Gaming

EuroGamer? You mean the people who gave MGS4 an 8 and Halo 3 a 10? The people who have done 15 PS3 vs. 360 graphic comparison rounds and concluded that the 360 is better every single time? The people who "concluded" that GTA4 looked (noticeably) better on the 360 than the PS3?

No, thanks. Why doesn't IGN do graphics comparisons?

Because they'd lose all of their fanboy readership and be unfairly discredited?

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)

You never know with IGN.  It might do their image more good than harm.

That's what I think too...

I have in past actually waved the PS3 superiority banner for a long time, and I have since changed my stance to neutral.  With the exception of a game here and there, most of the games that are dual releases tend to be nearly identical, or with a slight edge in graphics to the 360.

And if I am wrong, then Sony needs to prove it to me by showing me that their GPU really does produce sharper, more crisp graphics.  This far, it seems to me that Sony was just pulling the same mess they did when they said Blu-ray was superior to HD DVD (I actually think they were exactly the same in every way in both audio and video quality).  In other words, claim superiority but never actually show it.

I think Sony & MS are just about the same, big talk, but no substance to their claims.

"EuroGamer? You mean the people who gave MGS4 an 8 and Halo 3 a 10?"

I guess they liked Halo's online. Metal Gears, not so much.
I think the relative popularity of their online communities agree.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

The differences between the multiplat version of 80% of these games are so minimal that it would be impossible to notice without side by side comparison.

So I guess what I am trying to say is that this list is somewhat pointless.

wow this thread is full of hate... for the poster... for the numbers.... for a mag

cool methodology, something users at home could repeat, to test and see if they get the same results, very soundly done. granted this is all scientific.

@1337 gamer& gearbox.... if we had fun with those games does that still make it a waste of money... I had always thought gaming was about fun.

The reasons why you should consider buying PS3 version of multiplatform games even though I'm wrong on every account except the arguable one:

1) PS3 is quiet and XBox 360 DVD is very loud. You should consider keeping yourself and people around you away from this disturbing noise.  Wrong, installing on the 360 makes it so quiet that it's equivilent of it not even being on at ALL. You don't even here the disk spin, because it doesn't.

2) BluRay is scratch resistant. You BluRay games collection will live longer then DVDsOuch, wrong again. Read above; disk doesn't spin, so cannot get scratched. Newer models don't scratch your disks like the launch ones did, anyway.

3) PSN is free. Even if you are short on money you can play games online ;)   Arguable, most people seem to prefer paying for quality. Unless you're a cheapskate, the price isn't an issue. Cannot say you're "wrong" here though, this is arguable, especially on THIS site.

4) PS3 average lifespan is longer then XBox 360 average lifespan, so maybe you should play multiplatform games on PS3 and keep your 360 for exclusive titles, before it gives you RROD.  Third strike, you're out troll! RROD is a thing of the past with newer models. On top of that, installing games makes no heat emit from your 360. Heat = RROD.

You don't even here the disk spin, because it doesn't.  ...because the 360 fans are "stealth" fans, which never need to be on, except when it gets hot, which of course never happens.

2) BluRay is scratch resistant. You BluRay games collection will live longer then DVDsOuch, wrong again. Read above; disk doesn't spin, so cannot get scratched. Newer models don't scratch your disks like the launch ones did, anyway.  ...which is an advantage many PS3 games have taken advantage of (HDD installs to reduce BD use) since day 1.  Sure Sony could make it so that you can install the entire game, just like MS did, but they haven't because it was never really a problem.  Lets pretend this kind of afterthought is a boon to the 360, rather than a late-coming crutch that makes your console cost as much or more than a PS3.

Oops, we never did address the fact that Blu-Ray discs are much more resistant to scratching than DVDs, did we?  Gee, that might influence... oh lets see... the quality of used games available for the system over time, and thus the price of available good software.  Nothing big... unless you're a gamer that buys used games.  One of those "rare" gamers, maybe.  One of those few gamer millionaires that give places like GameStop and Game Crazy most of their income.

Also, most DVDs get scratched out of the drive, not in.  People store them badly.

3) PSN is free. Even if you are short on money you can play games online ;)   Arguable, most people seem to prefer paying for quality. Unless you're a cheapskate, the price isn't an issue. Cannot say you're "wrong" here though, this is arguable, especially on THIS site.  ...the fact that some people, oh sorry, actually a large number of people, prefer many features of PSN to XBL's equivalents doesn't factor into the MS awesomeness of XBL that you pay for, of course.  Of course Sony can never improve their software, so XBL's everlasting superiority... confirmed.

Heat = RROD.  ...oops again lets just forget that those 10% failure after the first 3 months numbers on Falcons are straight from MS.  10%... 3 months... sure its probably double that by now, but hey probably most of the Xenons and Zephyrs ever produced are dead at this point, so that's pretty good in comparison.  And hey, MS just did release the Jasper, so that, 3 years later, they are finally poised to approach the original PS3 models' level of quality.  Luckily, as long as you foot some extra $ for an extra coffin or two, which we won't count against the X360's "cheap" costs of course, MS will always repair your unit for "free".

I didn't mean this thread to be about attacking PS3, it has many qualities outside of multiplatform games that are worthwhile.

Just thought some people would like to see a summary of Eurogamer's comparisons
