The PS1 and PS2 charts are incomplete; they only show data from 1 and 2 out of 3 regions, respectively.

PS2 is showing pretty much just Japan due to the fact that it wasnt launched anywhere else for 7 months.

"PS1 All" only shows Japanese sales of the PS1, American and Others sales do not appear, due to incomplete data.

"PS2 All" only shows Japanese and American sales of the PS2, Others sales do not appear, due to incomplete data.

The PS3 is selling, worldwide, about as well as the PS2 did in America and Japan alone, not including the rest of the world (most notably Europe, where Sony tends to sell best).

How many times does this need to be explained, seriously.

 

 

EDIT: Perhaps a well-needed update to the website would be some value that checks what generation a console existed in, and stating at the bottom of the chart under the dates something like "Due to incomplete data, only JPN / USA sales are shown for ___" or something. Would clear up a lot of confusion.

 It would be nice. I'm often on a french forum, and each day there is someone who uses this comparison to say that the PS3 is not doing so badly, and it's very boring.

As many people have stated already the Playstation and PS2 data is incomplete although we can make other comparisons with data we have:

In Japan the PS3 is selling at (about) the rate of the Dreamcast and is below the sales of the Gamecube
