Ya expensive is right, just look for Laptop hard Drives, there are bigger sizes for cheaper prices.
Stay away from E-bay during the holidays, it's harder to get money back for items during the rush.

500Gb WD Scorpio Blue $114.99 w/ free shipping.
Faster AND cooler.
You should be very cautious about putting a 7200rpm+ drive in the PS3; the higher spindle speed generates A LOT more heat.
Yeah, definitely buy a laptop drive. It is very easy to upgrade your PS3 HDD. What I want to know is what the heck are people using their HDD for? I have a 120 GB in my PS3 and with game installs, downloads and everything else I still have about 90 GB left.
Don't use your PS3 as a storage device people that is very dangerous.

Demo Hording? Linux installs? audio/movie archiving?
Why would using the PS3 as a storage device be dangerous?

Also I have a 60GB from launch and it only has 9GB left. I honestly don't think I have that much installed, but demos, music, and game installs build up over time and take up space.

I was going to ask this same question. Theres a reason the PS3 holds music, videos and pictures. It's not so that you won't store them on it.
I have an original 60 gig, which I've had down to 5 gigs twice and had to delete things I didn't want to. I'll have a new HDD by Christmas, probably 500 gig so I never have to worry about it again.
