Forums - Sony - Ps3: the Dreamcast/Sega Saturn of this Generation?

Euphoria14 said:
I disagree.

Sony for one still has plenty of 3rd party support, just lacking in 3rd party exclusivity.

Sony also has a much larger 1st, 2nd party offering than the Saturn and Dreamcast ever did.

The PS3's 1st/2nd party offerings are nowhere near those offered by the Dreamcast. Despite it's short lifespan the Dreamcast had one of the best 1st/2nd party lineups of any console ever released.

Comparing the Playstation 3 to the dreamcast is a stretch. The reason the system isnt selling as well as it should is due to the pricetag of the system

there is just one thing seperating those systems from ps3 that logo of the company " SONY " they are too competitive to lose like this. If their past is any indication sony is not even near to losing the console war. The only barrier sony has is its price, when that settles the ps3 will be leading the chart as it should and microsoft will be preparing halo 4 as their comeback.

yes ps3 can be seen as a success it will outsell by miles last generation second place.

the xbox.

main reason ps3 isn't selling its the price, and its selling way better 360 did in its price.
we can expect a bigger bump than the xbox360 had when it reached 199-299$ price range

170k others, around 230k NA and about 20k in japan this week= 420k....the worldwide sales for ps3 will be around that this week. How do u call a system selling about 400k with a price tag of $400 dead? Also the ps3 is nearing 3 million in japan with hardly any japanese rpg's soo the potential is there for success, its just up to sony to take it there.

HAHA! Please tell me you're joking. Sega was publishing games for the Dreamcast practically on a weekly basis. You must never have owned one to make such a statement. Don't make me start a list wars!

No, the Dreamcast actually had good exclusives.

Soul Caliber, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Jet Grind Radio, Crazy Taxi, Power Stone, Space Channel 5 were actually worth buying a system for.

Well that would explain why Sega are being so sweet to them now.

*points to Valkyria Chronicles and Shenmue 3 - sorry, I mean Yakuza 3*

I think that the Ps3 is an equivilant of the Dreamcast, but at the same time I think it will not share a similar fate, because of three things - 1. The console that is supposedly going to kill it is dying before it finished the job, 2. Multiplatform games are becoming mandatory on all third party releases, with high profile games being the only real exceptions (for more reference, look at Condemned 2, Saints Row 2, Dead Rising 2 and Mass Effect 2 - first two became multiplat, last two have been stated by their respective publishers will be multiplat), and thus studios will be forced to develop for it - hell, even Valve said they'll have to learn the ways of the cell, and 3. Sony are just a bigger market force than Sega. Sega was one studio, Sony Computer Entertainment is made up of 30, most of whom are the definitive studios in their genre.

lol you just have no clue about anything op. Based on what it sold already shows your hole idea of comparing it to DC/saturm is pure ignorance.

PS2 was a bitch to program for as is PS3

Games become 360 exclusives only because MS busts out the $$$, while Sony creates their own exclusives they have no need to pay for them.

Bad consumer rep lol did you hear of the red ring, you really have no clue at all.

1. Dead Rising 2 isn't announced, so it's impossible for you to say what platforms it is or isn't on. For all you know it's an N-Gage exclusive.

2. Mass Effect 2 has not been announced for PS3. It's currently announced for 360 and PC only.

3. Sega is not one studio. You obviously know nothing about Sega and haven't played many of their games. Sega has 17 studios. Did you really think one studio was pumping out games every month? Did you really think the same studio that created Virtua Fighter 5 was working on Sonic Unleashed?
