Forums - Sales - Extrapolating Sales Data - With Images!

Hi folks. I thought I would just mess around with MSPaint and extrapolate some sales data. This is not scientific at all, but just a neat way to see what might happen. The first image just shows the probable sales if the systems keep selling how they are selling right now, through the holidays. Obviously this won't happen, but it is a good starting point for my next image...

I just randomly drew curved lines in MSPaint to guess what the holiday spike would look like this winter. Of course, nothing really scientific about it. I kinda made Wiis spike bigger because of the demand so far this year, and this chart assumes they are stockpiling, or will produce more magically.

Well, without further ado, here's the chart with no holiday spike:

And here is my guess as to what a holiday spike will look like:

What do you guys think about these charts? The ending date is the start of 2008. Just some guesses (but it will be interesting to come back to this thread and place the real charts over my charts....

It's a nice start. You can do a lot of things from there. Consider release dates, sales from similar future releases, etc. Nice work.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Yeah maybe I can do one later that adds in the Halo3 release... That should boost 360 a bit. Also I didn't take into account the 360 price cut...

It's hard to predict how Nintendo's sales are going to play out. Will they reveal their super secret warehouse when Galaxy is released? Metroid? Smash Bros? Do they HAVE a warehouse?

Wii is too flat after christmas I think... other than that pretty good.

It should stay the same angle that it is on now.

I can say this, even as a Nintendo supporter, that the thought of it continuing like that is almost frightening.  *Almost* ;)

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

 I enjoy being frightened :P

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I wouldn't be surprised if the angle was actually bigger than now some time after the holidays... Word-of-mouth marketing and all.

But of course, supply will remain a problem.

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

Looks good. I'd increase the X360 numbers a bit in Sept/Oct due to Halo 3 moving alot of consoles.

Outside of this, I think you've done an excellent job, and your numbers are just about where they should be.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

looks good, couple of niggles;
the Wii xmas rush seems to start a week later, i suppose it could be ninty releasing them all at once, but id have thought nintendo should start more earlier, people looking for 1 at xmas who know about short supply will be looking to find one early.
Also you say the line stops end of 07, so the xmas rush seems to stop about 2nd december.

You guys keep doubting the ps3 as usual...you should make a chart that shows what would happen if they release a model priced at $399.99 this holiday season..
