Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should I purchase a 360?

Dude just get a 360 now. The next wave of consoles will not release anytime soon. Not until sometime in 2010 or 2011/2012.

Everyone now is making profit expect the PS3. But anywho, the 360 is not RROD no longer anymore. You can purchase a 360 now. All 360's now have a Falcon or Jasper motherboard in them. They last way longer than the original launch consoles. I have had a Falcon-360 since January and its running fine now. The DVD drive is quiet and reliable. You will not be disappointed by the selection of games.

I recommend you get: Gears of War (for understanding the story), Gears of War 2, Halo 3, Ninja Gaiden 2 (if your a ninja fan), Lost Odyssey, Left4Dead, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Fable 2, Banjo:Nuts and Bolts. Several others but those are the top of my head.

If you wont play that much then I don't see you spending the 4-7 dollars a month for online. In that case I can not recommend a 360.

I pay $30 a year for LIVE. That's under $3 a month.

Good for you. Someone who wont play all that much might not want a full year subscribtion

Uhmm.. someone who wont play all that much doesnt need to get a full year in the first place which I think was the point. Suffice to say, I wonder how much of his investment in the Blu-Ray he is getting for the premium he paid.

That was my point. His point was I was inflating the price. But since you said so yourself he doesn't need a full year than he is paying 7 dollars for month to month bases.

Uhmmm ok but in regards to the OP, whether its $3 or $4 - $7 its not applicable. He wants to buy the 360 to play the exclusives. You are making it sound like its only worth it if he wants to pay the online fee with a condition that he plays alot. The first thing that he stated was that he wont be playing alot, so having the online fee as an option is more of a plus, since he doesnt have to pay this $3 or $4 - $7.

In my 2 year ownership of the 360 I have only signed on for 3 months of Live, and yes I have played a heck load on my 360.

Yes it is applicable. He is asking for opinions and my opinion is 360 aint worth it without online. Halo 3 (the biggest games on the 360) is only fun online in my opinion. I hated the SP. Gears of War 1/2 (Second biggest game)... again hated single player but enjoyed online. However I didn't like the 4 vs 4 only option. Was still fun. CoD4 I havent touched SP at all. And I can not recommend buying a 360 for SP games. I would however recommend some if the user already had a 360. (Especially since a lot are already multiplat)

On top of this his excuse is because it's cheap... So I'm assuming he'd get and arcade and that means no online. So I can not recommend a 360 to this user.

If rrod worries you (which the cheapest xbox version has the highest chance and I'm assuming you want that one), then use all that money to buy more games :)
After all it better for your investment :)

Come on dude,  there is no greater chance of getting RROD with an Arcade compared to the Elite.  Some guy setting back at the company doesn't just pick and choose which one gets it.  Some of you guys are so dead set against anyone purchasing an xbox its silly.  I mean, its not like someone is ripping your heart out and stabbing it with a pencil if they don't by PS3 software instead of a 360.

I own both a 360 and a PS3, and I think both of them are great.  If I didn't have a 360 I would purchase one simply for 2 main reasons.

1) They are dirt cheap if your a gamer at heart the more games you have an oportunity to play the better.  Even if you don't buy a lot of games you can always rent them.

2) Exclusives like Gears, Gears 2, Fable 2, Halo3, Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead, and lots of JRPG's.

Try it, you will be happy that you did, I promise. :D

No, it's not. You were using the SOP line - LIVE is up to $7 a month. You do realize that makes it $84 a year and I was informing the OP the true cost vs. the cost from a person who strongly supports the PS3. As stated earlier, he doesn't game a lot and he may/may not go online to game. My heavens - he has a PS3 - you don't have to tell him he'll have to pay for LIVE. I am sure he already knows that. As far as going online, do you know if he has friends on LIVE or not? If he does have friends on LIVE and few on PSN, I'd go with LIVE to play with my friends.

In the end, it's his choice, but if someone is saying something is incorrect ($30 vs. $84 for online gaming) then I do feel somewhat obligated to correct an incorrect/ignorant statement.

Well it's a good thing not everyone has the same opinion as everyone of those games is a blast single player IMO. You haven't played COD4 single player yet? Your missing out on a good game on either system

With 30 dollars (Which I'm sure its more like 50 anyways) that's 5 months on a month to month basis. For someone who doesn't play that much it is enough for the year. It's really funny you guys are so pathetic in your arguements trying to say my point isn't valid WHEN IT IS!

Well the only thing your gonna loose is your 250 bucks haha i cant see why not its money well spent its a great console for a great value.

I say go for it, Even with the crossover the PS3/360 combination works great for me because a lot of the very best games are exclusive to the particular platforms.

Tease.

360 has more higher quality single player games than the PS3. The argument 360 is only good for online games is invalid. 360's online is much better than PS3's online. You get what you pay for in this world.

Dude, go to eBay or catch a sale at newegg.com. Buy a year subscription for $30. I have never paid more than that in the years I have been on LIVE (since my original Xbox). No one is saying your point isn't a valid one. What I am saying is - if you are going to post the COST of LIVE, please give us a link to your $7 remark. Otherwise, quit pulling crap out of your butt. You want a link? Hit eBay - it's $39.99 for 12-month subscription via buy-it-now, or you can wait it out and offer $30 or win an auction for $30. As I stated just a few lines above - you can get a 12-month subscription - GOLD - for $30.

And if he tries out LIVE for 3 months, it won't be $7 a month, especially if he gets a 3-month card off eBay or newegg. Here's the list of prices for LIVE: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/memberships/subscriptioncards.htm
