MP3 could be huge. With the success of the Wii it comes down to two things:
i) Just how good is the game: From current impressions its very, very good. I still find it suspicious that so few people have played/reported on the title - but I think there might be a very good reason for that.
ii) How well is it publicised: Just for the US alone, there are a heap of things that could be done - not only to get strong sales, but to drive sales in the long term:
- Wii / Metroid Bundle
- Wii / Metroid Pack (including Metroid 1&2 - for the GC/Wii)
- online/regular content: if Ninty did have plans to regularly release updated/new levels for the game (say once/month), it would be too awesome. Metroid would be constantly in the news, and every new update would drive sales.
- game scoring + online leaderboards (any sort of online support would be cool)
- Metroid Wiiware "demo" (free), or demos released through other games
- a playable demo of Brawl (online??) on the Metroid disc (or even Galaxy!)
- free "Metroid Demo" disc with every Wii released from nowon (i.e. a "special" on all WiiSports discs!)
...etc...
The sky is the limit really - it all comes down to Ninty, and how creative they are with the marketing of the title. In many ways this (should be) the highest profile, and best Wii title released to date.
EDIT: Another idea: with the extra space on the disc, Metroid 1/2 are included with the game - as "unlockables" (say finish game, then finish game on hard/with 100%). The idea alone would make me drool...
