Forums - Sales - First PS3 third party million seller

Resistance, Motorstorm, Uncharted and Ratchet are made by sony's second party/first party developers and since Sony owns the rights for the IP, I dont think we can count them. Lair and Heavenly Sword are developed by independent studios but published by Sony, can they be considered third party.
On HeavenlySword.com it says
Heavenly Sword ©2006 Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, so i can guess it is a first party release by a third party developer.
The same goes for Lair ©2006 Sony Computer Entertainment America.
The only true third party releases are the ones that are not published by Sony.
Ubisoft's Haze (the timed exclusive status will give sales a huge boost)
Activision's Guitar Hero 3 (i they make the GH1,2 guitar compatible with the PS3)
Activision's Call Of Duty 4 (if it is not delayed for the PS3, unlikely since they do not use the Unreal Engine 3. ref: Stranglehold and the new MOH game)
MAdden 08 (this game is going to be huge, sold about 410K when it was a launch title, should hit 1 million within a 15-20 weeks of release)
PES 2008 (this game is going to be for E.U and Japan, suppose to be designed from ground up for the PS3, the leaked screen shots looked out of this world)
FIFA 08 (I expect FIFA to lose the sales crown to PES 2008 unless they switch the lead platform from the X360 to PS3, PES on PS3 is going to murder FIFA 08 on PS3 unless EA gets its act together, it will hit 1 milion within a month never the less )

I don't consider Heavenly Sword or Lair 3rd party. I think Heavenly Sword has a good shot at a million seller worldwide this year.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I really don't think it has much of a chance at all of breaking 1 Million units sold ...

God of War was one of the most critically acclaimed games released for the highly popular PS2 with a massive marketing campaign and it sold less than 2 Million units worldwide. I simply can't see this game being popular enough to be bought by over 25% of the console's userbase in North America and Europe (needs to be that high because it will probably not sell well in Japan).

Hmmm Fonzerelli, I only think ProEvo will have an impact on PS3 sales in Europe, but not that much. It can look as good as possible, but still people aren`t going to pay $500 for it. In Japan, I think the PS2 version will keep the dominant ones. And in America, Fifa wins, thanks to the licences. Actually, I think Fifa on Wii may have a chance to be succesfull in Japan, and more in Europe, if the controls are good enough.

I changed my Guitar Hero 3 to MGS4. Even with months on the market, I still don't see it selling 1M (360 sold around 1M(and increasing) on a larger userbase and its been months).

Its stuff like this that makes me wonder why Wiis ability to sell third party software is discussed more than, well the PS3's. Especially considering the rift in quality and brand name between the two libraries. I mean VF5 and Ridge Racer vs stuff like Red Steel and Rayman RR? Ive always felt there has long since been a new champion of the "But can third party games sell?" trophy. The PS3, but its like noone noticed.
In all fairness, according to VGChartz, Madden 07 and NFS have sold more on PS3 than Wii even though the Wii has twice the PS3 userbase. A year old port of Oblivion and a 7 month port of R6V have each sold more than 100k, so I say 3rd party games are selling well on PS3 overall, there just needs to be less crappy ports and better development time from developers, i.e. online in VF5, etc.

Those games were launch titles. The Wii absolutely DID NOT have such a large advantage in user base at that time.

The last few multi-platform titles are more telling. Spider Man 3 on the PS3 initially outsold the Wii version; now the Wii version is selling better, and it's rapidly approaching the PS3 version (they're withing 10k now, or 7% of their total sales, and at this rate the Wii version will outsell it in total within a month or so). The most recent multi plat titles have been Harry Potter, The Bigs, and Transformers. Transformers has sold marginally better on the Wii (and is pulling away slowly), the Bigs has sold twice as well on the Wii, Harry Potter more than three times as well.

I'm willing to bet that Madden PS3 will outsell Madden Wii.

I've already taken that bet with someone else, but I will match it with you: I bet the Wii version will outsell the PS3 version. And luckily, I have recent evidence to support my hypothesis!

I'd be interested to know what your evidence is.

At a guess, it's the sales of recent multiplat games - the ones you quoted him citing sales for in that very post.

What is the First Great PS3 3rd party title coming out? I think Rock Band might do it. Looks like some of the perifrials will be cheaper on the PS3 than 360. Anyway the fact is with double the install base Wii is still having a hard time selling 3rd Party titles. Madden most certainly has a chance.
