The one subject i excell in is maths, if a game gets 91% its a 5/5, if it gets 89% its 4/5, if it gets 90 then the reviewer is screwed lol.

Except you have changed it to a 6 point scale in doing so.

in your version you seem to be doing the closest to..... so 91 would be rounded up to 100, which is the same as 5/5 in mathematical terms yes.

similarly 89 would be rounded down to 80, which is 4/5 (read as 4 "over" 5 instead of "out of")..... but what then would a score of 9% be.... surely it would be rounded down to 0/5.... except we are using a 5 point scale which doesn't have a 0/5 in it.

I also know my maths (though since A-level stuff I seem to have lowered my ability to do addition and subtraction as quickly as I could)

Both or our mathamatical prowess are clearly on show here, looks like another agree to disagree scenario to me

Except it isn't, because your method doesn't fit into the 100% scale unless you make it a 6 point scale.

And while my old A-level tutor managed to run us through some calculations to prove that 3=4, I can't quite remember it so for now 5 definately does not equal 6

(I also can't quite remember what his workings hinged on that we as A-levelers didn't catch... may have been something to do with imaginary numbers, but it was a long time ago. All I know is Thomas Stubley is down £1 for his trouble)

As you wish, an 89% game deserves to be 5/5 *cough* though personally because it "dips" just below 90% i consider it 4/5

This is all the more reason why out of 100% should win, its the logical choice, not 5/5, not A+, not 9/10, not 4/4 and not a text review only.

Do you realize that if you are using a 5-point scale then you don't consider "percentages"?

Because scores are not grades?

^that's what I said originally, but then I got caught up in the maths of it all.... and I like maths (it's why I am on this website)

are games that score 4/5 been conned out of potentially a better score if the grading system was out of 100? the simple answer is yes.

Reviews need to exist in a vacuum. It does not matter how they affect aggregate scores. Worrying about that is not a reviewer's job.

Then reviews need to realise there is a fine line between scoring 4/5......... and 89% out of 100%

Its a 9% loss for the game if they go with 4/5............. its WRONG

No it's not. Reviewers absolute should not worry about aggregate scores.

Metacritic is not what people need to worry about. A game is a 4/5 or a 5/5 on that scale. There is no 89%.

Therefore there is no 4/5, percentages are THE MOST ACCURATE way of scoring a game, 9/10,5/5, 4/4, A+/B-, 5/6 ect SUCK
