The interesting fact to me is that Wii and 360 sales are greatly up from last year, while PS3 sales are completely flat (no growth at all). I'll run a further check on the numbers when we have Japan numbers as well, just to be sure.

It's a little hard to get a direct year-on-year comparison for sales, because Thanksgiving (and Black Friday) were 1 week earlier last year.

True, there are still some interesting things to see on a smaller level. But in the grand scheme of things, this console war has been pretty stale since it became obvious that Sony and MS would do anything not to get far from each other. That's when the war became HD vs Wii.

The truth, especially in NA is that the more Xbox 360s that are sold the more Sonys online services (Home/PSN) are devalued. There is a very real network effect going on here which means that as the 360 continues to outsell the PS3 the value of Xbox Live even at the $50 pricepoint increases relative to Sonys offerings.

Essentially it may be free, but if your friends don't use it but they use Xbox Live its worthless.

The same effect must be going on in Europe, the network effect is increasing and it will get old Xbox 360 users on Live and it will get new users to join. Essentially the more Xbox 360s Microsoft sells the more Live subcriptions and more importantly the greater % of live subscriptions to existing customers.

Tease.

The most interesting part of this gen will begin when mass market starts to get HD-ready in 2009 giving the 360 a huge boost.

In Japan people now buy less nationalistic than in the years before so it also could happen that in 2009 the 360 sells there in amounts never seen before.

These numbers seem right on track to me.

When the 80GB PS3 bundles start selling Black Friday and beyond, the PS3 should look a lot more attractive to holiday buyers than it does now. $400 for a 80GB vanilla PS3 doesn't seem like a bargain compared to $300 for a 60GB XB360 and a couple decent games. $400 for a 80GB PS3, plus a game and a BD movie will sweeten the deal alot I think.

As a side note, Sony is likely making money hand-over-fist on these PS3s.  The cost of making a PS3 was down to $400/unit back before they even had 65nm GPUs (all PS3s do, now) or the price of Blu-Ray dropped so dramatically.

The XB360 bundles are downright awesome deals, and I'm surprised it took it this long to really start flying. Good work by Microsoft, in fueling the hurting American economy. =) I think the 360 is going to have a phenominal Black Friday, at least in America.

The Wii should be even keel, or slight downturn, this week, just before Black Friday -- it should shoot up a bit (draining all remaining stockpiles, IMO) next week, and then settle at about 600K per week (WW) in December, as I see it, due to supply issues.  Remember that both retailers and shoppers are *expecting* it to be hot... thus they will buy it, and sell it, as fast, and early, as possible.  Any supply issues might result in additional X360 Arcade sales, come December.

Yes, no better time for everyone to jump on the HD bandwagon than during the biggest recession of the last few decades.

Ha, no way. When Nintendo forecasts 27.5 million Wiis shipped during the fiscal year, you can be 100% sure they have the stockpiles to do it.

The Wii will finish the year at around 45 million sold.

Do you really think Wii will only sell 9 millions units in 2009? Your sig is really weird and takes away your credibility.

I often see people here saying how price cut is needed for PS3 to stay competetive etc. And that's true, but dont you think if Sony will make a price cut - Microsoft will make one too just a few months later?

Maybe Sony realizes that and just doesnt want to play under Microsoft's rules. Because if this whole thing will transform into "who will run out of money first?" game, Sony will obviously not be a winner.

PS3 stop doing that to me!!! T_T

chill, wait for NPD's number.

Why is that necessary. You know last time NPD was out, the news wasn't so good for Sony and their software.

...look bro, I understand that these numbers are upsetting, but there is no need to misdirect your anger by passive-agressivly aiming it towards the website and its credibility.

Saying stuff like that is ugly bro. It makes me feel bad. Please refrain from doing it. In the long run, it isn't worth discrediting this site that you and I both love.

The PS3 will have its day. If you claim to believe the site then, you'll be a hipocrite.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

Microsoft is at a point where if they cut the price anymore, it will be percieved as despairation, and reduce the value of their console in the general consumers eyes. 199 is the big one. This is the big MS price-cut of this generation. This is the result.
