Honestly, they are more noise and more bandwidth than the post content in many threads - is there any way to turn them off?

I would like that as well. I haven't had any problems on my work PC until I came across Selnor's signature with the 3-4 GeOW 2 GIF's.

It murdered my jobs internet. (I guess they need to upgrade)
