The simplest indicator for stockpiling would be sales figures far in excess of the current rate of production, assuming said product was experiencing near 100% sell through of available stock at retail.
If sales handily exceed 553k a week, it means stock was built up and withheld over the previous months.
The week of 15 Nov was over 600k by VGC. 23 Nov is already projected over 746k without JPN sales factored in; a clear indicator that stock was held back.
