Forums - Sales - Microsoft:Xbox 360 is "crucial to family happiness" for the holidays

Microsoft yesterday revealed the results of a survey by Ipsos and StrategyOne called the "Xbox 360 Holiday Entertainment Survey." The survey, which indicates that U.S. residents plan on doing much less travel and cutting back this holiday season due to to faltering economy, attempts to position the Xbox 360 as the must-have gift this year. Microsoft lists the key findings as:

  • "60 percent of respondents are planning to stay at or close to home to save money over the holidays
  • 71 percent are looking for one gift to bring the family together
  • 89 percent are hunting for gifts that keep on giving
  • 81 percent of adults in households with children are looking for gifts that provide entertainment while staying home this year2
  • 86 percent of young adults hope to receive at least one video game this year
  • 40 percent of adults will visit the movie theater less than last year."

LOL at the title, humanity must have been very unhappy the past few thousand years without an xbox to play on.

Sounds like Nintendo has some big holiday sales ahead of them....

The overall description I get from those points seems more like the Wii, to be honest.

Then again, there's nothing like a family coming together over Gears of War 2. That's true family love.

I am sure they everyone who wants to bring there family together will run out and buy a 360..... um ya I think nintendo has this one down... 360 better stick with what it does well.... traditional gamers....

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Yeah, these statistics totally seem to work in the Wii's favor. After all the thing markets itself as a "family" console. On the other hand Xbox360 has the advantage of being the cheaper model. That will inevitably attract some consumers.

The real loser here is the PS3. They are going to have poor sales this winter season.

Lol yeah

Just think of all the misery and pain that could have been averted if Stalin and Hitler had an X360

OT: I agree that if anything, this makes the Wii's holiday season look even rosier than the 360's, I just hope they can prevent stock-outs.

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

MS must have never seen those people living in isolated rural areas, heh. I doubt they will all be depressed without 360s.
