Forums - Nintendo - New "control peripheral" coming out for DS (for Arkanoid)

Pretty cool use of the GBA port - wonder what else they could release like this? Analog sticks?

The latest issue of Famitsu reveals that Taito will release an entry in its classic Arkanoid series on the Nintendo DS later this year in Japan. Arkanoid DS will ship alongside a special dial controller that plugs into the Game Boy Advance slot at the bottom of the DS. Fashion conscious Japanese will be please to read that this sold-separately controller will come in one of four DS Lite matching colors.

More details on game modes over at 1UP's report. Sadly, no DS acronym, such as Arkanoid: Doh's Scorn has been announced.

Analog sticks would be a great improvement.

I'm buying them ALL.

Arkanoid was just an incredible reflex game and awfully addictive for me. I used to skip school to go play this game! Nobody ever beat my high scores either in the arcades, so that game holds a special place in my heart.

The PC version was ok with the mouse, but it's just not the same experience as the dial.

And yes, I am and old fart if I am getting this worked up about what is essentially a Break-Out game on steroids (the coin-op Break-Out being my very first arcade gaming experience when I was 8).

I hope the dial lives up to the coin-op feel - and lasts as long. I bought a dial for the PC version but it crapped out too quick.

This news ROCKS! I haven't been this excited about a game in ages. woot! woot!

Check this attachment out. Its a slider.

Here's the commercial for Slide Adventure Mag Kid, a new first-party DS game that hits on August 2 in Japan. This should give you a clearer idea of how the game controls: you attach the "slide controller", then actually slide the whole unit around on a table to move the game's main character. Not sure whether this is gimmick or genius.

I never posted about it, because I didn't think people would be interested.

On Topic: Interesting....

I know I'm getting it. Too bad it does not support Toilet Play though....

:(

Saw this a while back - looks interesting to say the least. Seems a little gimmicky to me, as its quite similar to the general interface you get using a stylus on the DS (similar...).

I like the "mouse" analogy - apart from being (obviously) too large, its pretty funny to think that a Wii game could use the DS as a mouse controller with this attachment!
