For you, that's cool and I'm glad it works out for you, but I wasn't talking about you.  The majority of people don't have a computer or laptop hooked up to a TV or want to watch a movie on their TV/laptop so that isn't really a viable option.

I know when I first got Netflix I thought I was going to use the Hell out of Watch Instantly because that seemed like areally cool feature.  I tried it a few times and either having to move my computer or fiddle with wires and hook up my laptop was just a pain in the ass.  Because of that I just didn't use Watch Instantly.

I know you could just come back with well that's just you then but I'm pretty sure most people will agree with me on this one (and every other Netflix subscriber I've ever actually known does).

There is a decent chance that the hack that allows PC streaming across devices could be shut down in the future. I'm not saying that's right, but it's a real possibility based on past actions of the RIAA/MPAA and other parties.

How does the streaming from PC to PS3 work exactly? I thought about trying it with the 360 before NXE. I never did. I assumed it wouldn't be that affective as I already have my PC connected to my TV.

How does the streaming work? Is it only video streaming? I assume that streaming the video is doing only that and you can't fast forward/rewind, pause, or change the movie without getting up and going to your PC. That's a big loss in convenience.

As for the idea proposed by Dallas, NetFlix allows you to watch movies on the fly through a subscription. I pay $9.00 and can watch anything they have available (and have one disc mailed to me). It seems you think it's more of a PPV method, but If I wanted PPV, I'd just watch PPV through my cable provider. Which I don't.

Being able to use NetFlix on the 360 is pretty awesome. I see no reason why Sony users would not want that service. As NJ5 pointed out, Sony would have to set up an infrastructure to provide their own service. It makes no sense for them to do that instead of just provide a NetFlix streaming client... that is, of course, unless they see digital media streaming as a threat to their proprietary media (AKA Blu-Ray) and are not ready to embrace it.

Remember the episode of the Simpsons where they get a elephant?

Its exactly the same situation where Homer opens the door and tells the kids to go a way the eight time despite they make it clear they'll PAY HIM to see the elephant.

360 owners- Can we have Columbia picture films? Well give you money!

SONY- NO *slams door*

PS3- Can we have movies? Well give you money!

SONY- FOR THE TENTH TIME NO! *Slam*

As for your bolded part, there are many progs to stream to the PS3 - TVersity, Nero Media Home, Media Player 11 and many many more.

Most will allow you to share music, vids and pictures depending on what content you allow the porg to have access to.

These pop up in the XMB as media servers from where you can drill down to find what you'd like to stream at any given time. Also, you can still fast forward or rewind or pause the content being streamed as long as the program streaming it from your PC allows this and your connection and PC is good enough.

As for the rest of your post, well i'm not able to use netflix anyway so i've got no opinion on it.

This is true for media on your computer.  Both consoles are capable of this.  My question concerned streaming a stream from a remote source as it is already being streamed to your computer.  I figured the program would just relay the stream without allowing you to remotely control the feed.  But, I just looked it up.

PlayOn does indeed allow you to remotely control the video and lets you play and pause and select the video of your choice in your queue.  Cool.  However, you still can't fast-forward or rewind.  Bummer.  Also you can apparently watch streams from Hulu.  I wrongly assumed you could not control the video from the device.  I'll have to check it out for Hulu!

The 360 NetFlix offer is still a bit more advantageous with the fast forward/rewind and that you do not need your computer on, but this program seems to be much better than I thought.

Netflix also does not allow HD streams through the pc. It has to be from hardware that has the Netflix application such as Roku and the 360.

Does anyone even pay legit money to be able to download and watch movies these days??

@Dinomax

The ps3 has movies from sony..
