Forums - Gaming - Multi-Disc Final Fantasy XIII On 360 Looking Likely

The Fury said:

3-4 360 DVDs costs more to produce then 1 Blu-Ray disc. This is the only issue. The more DVDs you use the more expensive it becomes. (I think I heard this mentioned somewhere by some Developer, sorry no source but it's sound thinking). So this would mean less profit for SquEnix or more expense for the customer.

microsoft issue a heavy levy on developers who make games more than one disc.

ff13 is likely to use 4 dvd`s, looking at the quality of ff13 compared to the quality of lost oddeseey, for ff13 to fit on 4 dvd`s it would have to be shrunk down, especially the audio cut scenes and mabey even texture work, they cold go for 5 dvd but thats laughable.................

heck the 360 case is only designed for 3 dvd max, lost oddeseey 4rth dvd was cheaply tucked away in the manual.

its clearly obvious that anyone who wants to have the best game of ff13 will buy the ps3 version, or as i like to say "as square intended version"

the problem of multiple discs is that it cost more for developers to make a game because discs aren't free or cheap, EX- if it cost a dollar to purchase a cd, multiply that times 5 million, thats 5 million spend on just the discs and 5 million that comes out the developers pocket. now wat if its 2-4, thats even worser for developers cause they profit less off the game

Well it is uo to you if u prefer installation for 20 minutes and the lost of 5GB HDD-space or switching discs 3 times for 45seconds, without losing space on the HDD.

That is odd, BluRay offers so much space, but developers are just not able to use this as advantage. So the PS3 won't have an advantage due to BluRay. Like in every other multi-plat game before. Blue Dragon comes on 6discs i guess, Infinite Undiscovery on two, Lost Odyssey on four.

the greatest game ever, shenmue I/II, came on 7 discs and it did not affect gameplay in any way.

What console has a 5gb install? What console has an install that takes 20 mins, no strike that, what console has an install that takes 5 minutes?

Certainly not the ps3, I doubt FF XIII will have much if any install, its ps3 first, then ported to XBOX3 60, square will utilize the disc space, not make a mandatory install, may I remind you Mirror's edge looks better on the ps3, Burnout looks better on the ps3, Uncharted is the best looking console game, and NONE have installs.

I need to speak up here.  The Asian import Siren: New Translation took 5GB of required installed hard drive space.  Install time... cannot recall.  But what I can recall is that it's one of the best survival horror game available as a PS3 exclsusive.  Nice stuff, man.  Installing, not an issue because the game was awesome while it ran very smoothly.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

WTF? The entire game of siren is less than 5gb why would the install be more than 5gb?

Wait a Sec... How can you say "Uncharted is the best looking consol game.." I admit it is a beautiful game but what do you mean by "Best looking"? In my opinion, it's levels look better than the common planets on Mass Effect, but Mass Effect has much better looking character models.

The issue is convenience , if you had to clap your hands every 10 miles you drove your car to stop it from breaking down you won't be bothered too much but if your next door neighbour had the exact same car but didn't need to then you'd be going through a procedure that you otherwise may not need to for the same effect some one else gets effortlessly.

it's not a big issue but it's convenience you won't get unless you own a PS3 , gaming shouldn't require any effort other than playing the game itself.

Your example is silly:

  • You might clap your hands every 10-15 minutes while you would have to change discs every 10-15 hours.
  • You may have to clap your hands 5 times in one trip (depending on length) but you more than likely won't have to change your disc more than 3 times (4 discs).
  • Changing discs isn't a significant inconvenience.  Are you telling me Blue Tooth is crap since I can't have an IR or Universal remote that turns off my PS3 so I have to get up if I want to turn it off?

A lot of people seem to be ignoring one major issue.....game genre.

For some games like linear level progessive FPS games multiple discs is a a swap every few hours. RPGs it would not be.

I'm playing through FFXII some now, and I am constantly backtracking doing quests, jumping through multiple areas in minutes.

If this game was multi-disc I'd be needing to swap the disc every 1-3 minutes at points. Sure, doing the main story I guess I'd stick about in each area a good while, but when it comes to the smaller quests which do make up a large bulk of game, swapping discs constantly would be a real pain in the arse.

Didn't FFVII, FFVIII, and FFIX have multiple discs and backtracking?

Who cares?

That really reminded me of a picture:
