Forums - Gaming - Multi-Disc Final Fantasy XIII On 360 Looking Likely

You can't just compare the Blu-Ray vs DVD films with the Blu-Ray vs DVD games, in films, the Blu-Ray has HD video and better audio than the DVD, in games, IT'S THE SAME PHREAKING CONTENT, and if we talk about exclusives that use much of the Blu-Ray, then Metal Gear Solid 4 used Dual-Layer Blu-Ray, and the cost is no different than 360 exclusives that use one DVD...

Seriously people, if you're gonna compare prices, compare GAME PRICES, not just a film comparison...

The "FFVII 3 disc" justification is invalid while the "load time vs. game install" is also invalid. The bigger picture here is that developers had no other choices but CD's and cartridges during the 32/64 bit days where CD's proved to be more advantageous. Choices now are Blu-ray and DVD's where as the console industry progresses, Blu-ray has proven more advantageous. It's not as much a CD's and cartridges, but still advantages. And with the NXE, is seems that hard drive installs will be the preference at this rate on the 360 when given the oppotunity even though it's not required. So now both the 360 and PS3 has the common advantage of hard drive installation.

My only problem with installs on larger games is I'm worried they will make me install them all at the same time.  I really don't want to devote 20+ gigs of my hard drive to a single game.

Has anyone installed something like Lost Odyssey?  Does it let you install a single disk at a time instead of making you install the entire game?

I does boil down to personal preference especially now that the NXE allows for installs.  Of course no choice before the release of the NXE.  Some wanted it, some didn't care for it. I can help but to think that some who didn't care for it are now enjoying it like ulitizing a feature on a cellphone they first didn't care for until actually giving it a chance.  But I can see where you are coming from.  It would be a problem with a 20GB 360 while you could just upgrade a PS3 to a Western Digital 320GB Scorpio internal hard drive for under $90.  Through the NXE you have the option of install, PS3 more than likely required.  Either way you can delete your data when finished.  I prefer the install because I can do it when I first get the game while doing other tasks around the house then later have a more seemless experience.  I would recommend it while there is a give and take between the 360 and PS3.  360 hard drive install = optional; but if a larger hard drive is required, an upgrade is relatively expensive.  PS3 hard drive install = probably required; but if a larger hard drive is required, an upgrade is relatively inexpensive, and you get to reuse your old one.  There is no clear-cut best case scenario here.  Let's stop bickering (Not referring to you twestern, just everyone else.)

This just in: Sony fanboys still eager prove that any game that has to be released on multiple disks is awful. Desperate search to find inferiority in Xbox360 continues unabated.

Who really cares if it comes on multiple disks? Honestly. You know, if I buy a DVD box set that costs $50 and comes on 6 DVD's, I don't complain. Actually, I complain when the same set releases on a one or two Blu-Ray disks and costs $60-70. Which is exactly how it seems to go. Two-disk DVD special edition of a recently released movie? $24.99. Single-disk Blu-Ray version of same film? $29.99. Which one says "value" to you.

Game releases on PS3 on one disk.
Same game releases on Xbox360 on 2 disks.
Game still sells better on the Xbox360 anyway.

Not only are you trolling, but you will be sadly mistaken when the game releases. The game will first of all be exclusive to PS3 in Japan, will most likely sell more on PS3 in others and will be close if not more on PS3 in North America.

How do YOU know? who told you?

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

So can you install just a single disc at a time?  :-p

I have the 120gig hard drive so I'm not worried about filling it up (since I never need more than a few games installed at a time), I just hate having so much space set out for a single game.  >_>

"So can you install just a single disc at a time?"

I don't know if you were being sarcastic, but this would be another option if true depending on the developer.

EDIT: browser problems

Well it is uo to you if u prefer installation for 20 minutes and the lost of 5GB HDD-space or switching discs 3 times for 45seconds, without losing space on the HDD.

That is odd, BluRay offers so much space, but developers are just not able to use this as advantage. So the PS3 won't have an advantage due to BluRay. Like in every other multi-plat game before. Blue Dragon comes on 6discs i guess, Infinite Undiscovery on two, Lost Odyssey on four.

the greatest game ever, shenmue I/II, came on 7 discs and it did not affect gameplay in any way.

What console has a 5gb install? What console has an install that takes 20 mins, no strike that, what console has an install that takes 5 minutes?

Certainly not the ps3, I doubt FF XIII will have much if any install, its ps3 first, then ported to XBOX3 60, square will utilize the disc space, not make a mandatory install, may I remind you Mirror's edge looks better on the ps3, Burnout looks better on the ps3, Uncharted is the best looking console game, and NONE have installs.

Heh, nope, actually wanted to know.  ^^

Even though now I have more space than I know what to do with I'm still one of those crazy insane people that likes to use as little space as possible.

I'd totally throw in LO and test it for you, but I already have Fable II installed and with a lowly 20GB, that's all I have room for...

Agreed. You'll have to get off your arse maybe twice throughout the game to swap discs for a total of 30 seconds or so. Big friggin' whoop.
