I am 1978, so I'm also one of the older members.

As others have mentioned already, numbers came only monthly back then for America, and Europe didn't have numbers at all.

Kwaad was the member with the most posts, but he was about the only Sony supporter and there were some great discussions/flame baits with him. Other notable members from back then are superchunk, Alacrist, sieanr, HappySquirrel, ErikAston, RolStoppable and of course the mods stof and BenKenobi (is he still around, btw?) and, last but not least, ioi who was called Wii_Gamer or something similar back then.
