It was an okay game for a while, but then it got really boring. :E
Never found what was so addicting about it. The leveling up takes forever and the grinding is the worst I've ever seen.
It's an MMO. Do you really need another reason to avoid it like the plague?
First of all, hi everyone, this is my 1st post, WOOHOO...
I played MapleStory for over 3 years (since the original beta came out) and I can tell you it is quite addictive. It's an entertaining game at the beginning, but the leveling and grinding gets so repetitive and slow towards the latter levels. You WILL need to spend money on it to make your experience decent and some people rather just pay for WoW or something else. But I don't regret the time I spent on it. My main was a lvl 103 archer :)

Wow, you signed up just to reply. Awesome, welcome to VGChartz
My character was a Priest on Broa named Gengo.
The game is pretty awesome when you meet people on there and make friends. Then drama starts and gets in the way and breaks friendships up. The best part was trying to set up a store before the night was over and finding a good spot to sell you wares at the market.

To me, MMOs just struck me as interactive character dramas with gameplay and online and what not. I mean....MMOs cause addiction and they could potentially ruin your life. I can never really get into MMOs anyway. RuneScape was fun for a week but it for boring after that. I even played the beta for SMT Online but that got meh after just 2-3 days. I even played LotRO for a week with a trial I found on GameSpot but I didn't feel like paying and I still don't.
the game is free and you also mentioned about kids.. so expect a lot of young immature gamers on there
I played the game mostly because of the friends I met on there. We had fun having our own adventures and using it as our getaway after our daily lives to meet and talk about our day. Adventuring came after that. Sometimes we'de meet up just to say hi and goodnight, without playing.
If you haven't noticed, I love chibi and that game is 100% chibi happiness.
