Based on my experience and what MS has said it is stupid.  I am sorry but none of my friends bought a 360 because of Halo 3 and I only have 2 xbox live friends (met them on live) who have played Halo 2 on their 360 since I bought it last September.  If your a Halo fan why buy a 360 before part 3 is out when you probably don't care about other games?  I am sure gears of war brought in alot of people that didn't play Halo as it is a different game same with games like Guitar Hero etc.  All I am saying is it is dumb to think most Halo fans already bought a 360 when if they are Halo fans that is what they care about not Microsoft.  Again is ALL about the games not the hardware that gamers truly care about.  Would the Wii have sold as well wihtout Wii Sports or Wii Play etc with just the likes of zelda for christmas?  I mean is not like the gamecube didn't have the mario's, zelda's, metroids but wii sports is what really sets the Wii apart complimented by the motion controls.    By the way another reason to expect better sales for September that apparently keeps being over looked is all the games out in September so far with good and decent reviews like .skate,stranglehold,eternal sonata among many others that might not rate as well but are still available for people to choose from. Games lead to hardware sales and that is exactly 360 has this holiday season starting this month.  

One quick question though I know price is an issue would people have bought a ps3 at $600 if MGS4 and FF13 where launch titles?  I pesonally say yes as games > price .  Ps3 Just hasn't had the games to pull people to buy at that price as good as resistance and motorstorm where they just didn't have enough especially being new IP's to pull people in.  Is why I think some people think the PS3 wll be just fine since once those games hit it will be a reason to buy a ps3 etc.  Again is about the games and is why MS and SONY try so hard to get exclusives.

I also think it is about the games, but I am sure the grandbase of Halo players already bought their Xbox. This was also initiated with the release of GOW. SO software wise they might have a hit but hardware wise I think they will not survive 2009.

it will be interesting to see who comes out on top this year in the americas, i think the 360 has a very solid xmas line up as does the wii but i think the 360 might just edge it. europe will also be a lot closer than most think i feel but japan? nintendo owns atm

It won't get ahead of Wii. Those sweet Japanese buying Wii's with Halo will see to that.

Once the Japanese numbers are in it will be final, as it stands right now by my calculation the 360 is outselling the Wii by 27,020. Given the lower sales in Japan the last few weeks I think it will be very close. I suspect we will see someone in the +/-10k range be the victor(s).
