With the RAM and CPU you listed the 9600 GT should be able to run Crysis v1.1 on Medium settings without any problems. The 9600 would not be my first recommendation but you could do a lot worse.

¿how can i know if a card is good for games?

the one I bougth, i bought it for the 512mb and still seems insufficient to wath I need.

wath should I look for when buying a card?

When you buy a Video Card, don't just look at the RAM, the RAM is important, but the most important thing to look is the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), without the GPU, the CPU (Central Processing Unit) has to process everything and that's not healthy even for a simple desktop GUI...

I saw your GPU, and that's the thing that keeps you from playing Crysis at better settings, although don't feel so bad, Crysis is badly coded and overuses the resources really horrible, so unless you have a lot of money, don't try to have smooth maximum settings on this piece of crap (talking about the programming again, the game itself is good)...

pretty much what everyone says... you need a better graphics card, your CPU/RAM is completly fine, now all you need to do is upgrade the card, youll see major difference if you spend $100, $200, $300, or $400 so pick whichever price you can afford...

Thanks, I think I will go with the 9600 GT, mainly because of the price.

I wanted the radeon 4870 but the price here in México is around 500USD.

My definition of fanboy: An idiot that misses 2/3 of the fun.

Don't buy the 4870 if it's going to set you back the equivalent of $500 USD. That's way too much for the performance bump from a 9600GT.

I have a Palit 9600GT 1GB and a Visiontek HD4870 512MB and the only game that makes a significant difference in playability is Crysis/Warhead (assuming 1920x1080 or lower resolution). Just about every other game runs at maxed out settings with 30-60+ fps.

I built a rig with a Palit HD4870x2 and for the difference in price over the HD4870, again; not worth the difference in price unless you're simply trying to build the fastest rig, money considerations aside.

For the vast majority of games, the 9600GT performs great for the price they currently go for. It's a good card although if you can get a 8800GT for maybe $10-20 USD more, it's worth the small premium.

Other cost consideration between a 4870 and a 9600GT (which is already at least twice the price) is your PSU. The 4870 uses a lot more power than a 9600GT and would probably require a new power supply if you're currently using anything under 500watts.
