I think that EGM started to slide downhill in the late 90s. I'm not sure what of all the causes were, some are hard to quantify, but for me the lag time was a big part of it. I can still remember seeing games on store shelves and having to wait a month or two to get an issue of EGM that actually reviewed them. I understand lead times in publishing but with EGM it sometimes bordered on ridiculous.

Also not to insult all the people that contribute to the magazine but I found some people with EGM simply helped to ruin it.  One in particular is so annoying that I don't even bother to read the magazine even when I can for free.  Add in the fact that their credibility has been called into question recently, especially when it was revealed that they simply make up some of the rumors in their gossip column.

Good riddance to the magazine since there are now several websites that are superior to it and don't charge anything.  Is it any wonder EGM has been basically giving away God knows how many free subscriptions just to get circulation up to justify the cost of ads for the magazine and to continue to secure advertising?

RIP EGM. Like some TV shows that live long past their prime and are slowly run into the ground I choose to believe that EGM died a long time ago.

I actually had issue number 3 at one point. I was more of a Gamepro kind of guy back then.
