I agree with stickball on this one, serves Sony right, it´s their turn to pay.

You totally lost me on this one. Pay for what exatly?

Currently, they've paid 3.5 billion dollars to come in 3rd place this generation.

It's very simple: Major companies have made horrible blunders with their consoles. Sony has done the exact same thing, and up until now, everything retarded they've done hasn't turned out as bad as it should have.

Until now. They're getting stomped in seemingly every market now. If things persist, and Sony can't re-capture any momentum, they will have to settle for a healthy 3rd place, but come at such a severe cost - they may take years to recover from.

So how much profit did Sony make with PS1 and PS2 combined? And does the 3.5Bill loss put them nearly back to square 1 where they started in the 90's?

They're on the verge of losing the ps2's money but it's still bringing in more. Ps1 profits have been immortalized already.

Thats some come down for a company like Sony (with the PS brand track record). I almost feel sorry for them. :(

Does MS lose money on the 360? If so, how much?

How much does Sony lose on the Ps3?

I'm asking because I don't know. I have a feeling MS is in a better position for more cuts.

Microsoft makes money per X360 sold...Even at $200. That's not to mention the massive amount of cash they make per Pro or Elite, which have pretty decent profit margins (since both merely come with bigger HDDs that are cheap to produce).

On the other hand, the Playstation 3 is nearly impossible to judge. They should be close to breaking even on each PS3 sold, or making a very slight profit - but they are most likely on the razor edge - if Sony wanted to make any money this generation, they'd need to keep the current price until they can get the PS3 to ~$300 before the next price drop.

You didn't think losing their customers, 3rd party exclusives, brand name recognition, the PS head honcho and $3.5 bln was bad enough? Wow, what's the world turning to? lol.

Mind you, they've already settled for 3rd place. You won't hear it from PR though because they'll only bring you good news. The new race is the race for profitability especially with the global economy threatning the entire fabric of the company.

But they were still selling a decent number of systems. That meant that one could always hope against hope that the lead the X360 had would diminish, and with forward momentum, they could re-capture 3rd parties, and gain back a good following. But with the X360 enjoying comfortable leads (which are very unlikely to change over Christmas), it's impossible to see a good future for their system.

No 10 year plan.

No more exclusives outside of 1st and 2nd party IPs.

No price drops until the system is virtually irrelevant.

And if the trend continues, whatever shred of exclusives the Playstation 3 now has (FFvXIII) are most likely toast.

The good news? It gets more and more likely I can get Valkyria Chronicles on my X360 :)

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Small games don't get massive port requests which means it's unlikely. The only game 360 fans have been clamoring for is mgs4. FFvXIII is coming for 360 as I've stated multiple times.

You don't think sony's selling a decent # of systems now? If you ask me, they still are, just nowhere close to M$ or Ninty.

As for 3rd parties, multiplat would remain 1st choice. Only PC devs have a chance of skipping a ps3 release. The x360 gap remains too small to justify exclusives. Expect only more exclusive DLC for 360 and gimped ps3 ports.

At the moment it's at break-even according to a MS UK rep. He said they make money on some, lose money on some. I'm assuming he means money lost on Arcade, money made on Pro and Elite. He probably also means that it depends on the market, depending on the relative strength of the dollar.

On the other hand, the Playstation 3 is nearly impossible to judge. They are definitely losing money on each console sold. Their most recent earnings report indicates this--money lost in the gaming division in spite of strong domestic PSP sales (and PS2 sales worldwide). The Yen has surged over the past few months, any console sold in Europe or America likely costs them big.

But they were still selling a decent number of systems. That meant that one could always hope against hope that the lead the X360 had would diminish, and with forward momentum, they could re-capture 3rd parties, and gain back a good following. LOL, rubbing it in.

damn, yes the situation looks pretty bad, but all of this "I told u so HAHA!" comes out when numbers is adjusted LOL. It's like all of the fanboys (even the secret ones) came in here to gloat. Anyways, It's still to early to say that Sony is destined for 3rd place, yes it looks bad (read my first post in this thread) and yes the economy will favor the 360 more, but it's still young. Oh btw, this is not "damage control" I already stated earlier in the thread that things are looking bad for PS3 and they could be 7 mil down by january. PS3 needs a price cut + BC ASAP.

What about Enchanted Arms and Eternal Sonata?

I'm not arguing if Sony is going to get any games whatsoever, I'm just arguing that it's very grim for an exclusive to come to the Playstation 3 unless Sony pays for it, or made it themselves....Why make a game console-exclusive on the 3rd ranked system, which also costs the most to dev for?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

If only sony would drop the price *sigh*

@Mrstickall

So you find Versus XIII very wierd that its exclusive, what about STAR OCEAN 4? INFINIT UNDISCOVERY?

Then they would go bankrupt, and 360 would gain even more profit and exclusives/sales. How much is Sony in debt because of PS3, is it 3.15bil or 3.50bil? I forget.
