Forums - Nintendo - Metroid Retrospective

Metroid Prime 3 comes out in less than a month, making it a perfect time for GameTrailers to post a Metroid retrospective - a look back at all the Metroid games that have past.

In case you missed it, the first video is up, the second should be coming soon.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Toit! Not unlike a Toiger! :)
I am so excited about MP3 I was going to get it on my birthday (Aug 20th) but I guess I have to wait a week now!

Great video. As someone who hasn't played the NES metroid, was I the only one thinking "that game just looks too hard for today's audience" or should I say "too hardcore"?

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Cool

I just bought Metroid: Zero Mission yesterday...I've played through the NES Metroid...and yes, it's freakin hard. At least it was for me.

Metroid: Zero Mission is amazing though...a remake of the NES game, with all the standard features like upgrading guns, super jumps, etc. Added levels, much improved graphics...plus the entire original NES Metroid all on the GBA cartdridge.

I never owned the game, just borrowed it, but I felt like playing through some Metroid games before MP3 came out. And for some reason it sucks on an emulator hehe.

I only beat it once as a kid, and I had to painstakingly map the entire game on graph paper. It was a great feeling of achievement when I finally beat it (and the final boss is pretty tough - frustrating, actually).

Metroid for the NES was pretty tuff... I would think that, yes, it is too hardcore for todays audience. I think that a lot of people also have a really hard time playing games like The Legend of Zelda... that game is also pretty hard for todays audience.

If I recall correctly (this was about 15 years ago for me, I think) my family had to get a guide from Nintendo Power so we could finish Metroid. I guess I wasn't skilled enough at that time to make my own map.

-Manella: Yeah... sux0rz! I hate missing out on food...
-Maya: Nick... what does "Sucksores" mean?
-Phoenix: No idea...

Stof you are correct, a game like this would garner thousands of complaints from todays supposed "hardcore" gamers for it's difficulty. Kids these days don't know what difficult games are. The NES and SNES still have some of the most difficult games of all time.
