Getting a Wii in Japan isn't easy, it's easier. Well, easier than before at least. Akiba Blog reports that the Nintendo Wii is starting to materialize in semi-normal numbers. Since the 29th of this month, the Wii consoles seem more abundant and have been located at Tokyo retailers like Sofmap, AsoBitCity and Gamerz — with it was still sold out at Ishimaru. It's assumed that the increase in consoles has been to support the Japanese release of Mario Party 8. I haven't checked around here, so I'm not sure if this is regional to Tokyo or what.

 Expect big numbers for Wii this week.

^He is getting there. Technically, 2/7 (although the bulk is sold on Sunday/Monday) of this weeks numbers will count towards July. He may just get it.

It wont make it in July, I don't think 250,000 are going to sell in each region during this week unfortunately.

I actually gave him the next 2 weeks (ie, till the end of NPD July). I still don't think he'll make it but it's definitely impressive his guess was so close, especially since most people thought he was completely crazy for suggesting it.

Anyway, July finished 6 minutes ago here, so it's all up to number reporting, now.

So is the situation really normalizing or are people just not aware of the big shipment this week?

Unfortunately I think it is the second possibility.

This thing sells better than the PS2 did in Japan and the big titles are not even out yet. Look what happened to the DS when Brain Training and the Core games (Mario Kart DS, Jump Superstars) hit the systems and what a Christmas followed. And the Wii sells at a PS2 like rate without such big AAA titles and just one real popular casual title (Wii Sports).

This thing should sell between 25-30 million consoles in Japan.
