vlad it will never be cheaper than disc.
unless disc based/laser based begin to show limitations it's not likely

The disk being overtaken doesn't depend on speed. USB 2.0 is already faster, it oopny depends on size and price. As soon as flash drives can be mass produced as cheaply as CDs for the same storage is when we see the shift.

i see your point and i forgot that usb2 is faster currently lo l(dumbass move) but it will still take some time to make a 1 gig flash drive cost pennies.

You mean kinda like an extremely limited read/write speed?

I'm actually up for grabs on what happens first, a solid state memory hard drive or flash drive distributions. Since when the bigger sizes, like 256 gigs and so on, hit commercial prices the drives on the lower spectrum will become increasingly cheaper. Eventually we're gonna have games that install within seconds and my Vista will be booting up in 35 secods or less, not to mention eventualy flsh drives will hold more than anything we currently have and still be cheap enough to produce, but that's more than several years away, maybe 5 to 10 if I had to take a guess.

I also forgot to mention, USB jacks are dirt cheap, no matter what happens they will always be significantly cheaper than a BluRay player, and we're already starting to see 64 gig sticks rearing their heads for under $100. Flash memory is currently doubling every several months. Seems like more and more people are getting on the bandwagon, which is good cause then we can finally put to rest these sluggish disk based storages.

I nabbed a 4 gig flash drive early in early 2008 for $15. I just looked on newegg and I could get the 8gig version of that same flash drive for about the same price.

Bring on the memory advances!
