Forums - Sales - Ps3 over taking the 360s growing lead....

just look at the last weeks.. PS3 and 360 HW numbers are not that far from each other.
and the 360 got Gears of War 2 and Fable 2.. (2 of the most waited games.)

so, if PS3 can stay at that rhythm even with a 'double' price and not even a real big exclusive.. i doubt that 360 can match when GT5, KZ2, God of War 3, Final Fantasy Versus 13, Final Fantasy 13 (japan), Uncharted 2 and other games come to hand..

People!!! We have to remember this is not a race, Sony is not looking to over take anyone, they are only trying to make a profit and meet the demands of the shareholders...

the gap increasing steadily as Japan+Other number already in, America number will definitely will show xbox 360 > PS3 again and again this week

This is my opinion but right now the PS3's problem is not the price, but the demand. A price cut will increase demand, but its not gonna get suddenly skyrocketing sales, because the demand for this type of product is both limited and split. We've seen this already with the 360. The other problem is that the PS3 isn't fighting against the price so much as it is fighting against the 360. A basic tenet in economics states that substitute goods tend to sell better for the lower priced product. An argument I've made before is that Sony failed to get consumers to perceive the PS3 as a luxury good, a product whose demand isn't as bound by price. Instead, it's seen as a counterpart to the 360, and as long as that is the perception, Sony will struggle with the higher price (as it seems clear by now that MS will not let any response by Sony go unanswered).

Notice how Resistance 2 and LBP are no longer big releases. I guess the same will happen for Killzone 2, FFXIII and GT5.

People have go to stop thinking that a game even GT5 will change the balance. Every single console sold before GT5 is one less potential sale because of GT5. When GT5 or FFXIII release the PS3 will have already sold around 30 million consoles. I swear if you are a regular on these forums you would be lead to believe that it is true that the PS3 will be at 30 million sold when GT5 releases, but none of the people that will purchase GT5 will have a PS3 already.

In reality the more consoles that have been sold the smaller the impact a game has. GT5 impact will be minimal. Even with a price reduction. Speaking of price reduction you can count on MS doing a price reduction as well when Sony does. The 360 is profitable at the current price point and the PS3 is not. The PS3 has been reduced $100 (some would say with some validity that the PS3 has dropped $200) and guess what although on the market a year longer the 360 has dropped $100 as well.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

360
Slim = no
halo recon = meh wont cause people to get a 360
halo wars = most halo fans i no H8 RTSs with a passion
price = they are still in a loss and there sales are not going up to the amount they wanted

ps3
FF13 = if good will move like 500k ps3s over a month in japan|
gt5 = will move a few million
gow3 = uhmm it will move a bit i guess
price drop = win

360 won't be able to hold on because:

1. PS3 price drop imminent (well sometime 2009 maybe)
2. How much lower than $200 can 360 afford to go?
3. PS3 has those games coming out you mentioned in the opening

PS3 will eventually pass 360 NO MATTER WHAT. I'm even talking 2016 after the "10 year plan"

Games - Right now I don't see either system pushing systems due to game releases except in japan. And for ps3 and 360 these so called "Boosts" are very minor or short lived.....

Price - I've noticed alot better reactions from PS3 price cut's as apposed to 360. PS3 actually beat the Wii 3 times due to certain game launches and price cuts... THis is something I have yet to see the 360 do. People stating that a certain priced PS3 would give the ps3 amazing sales over the 360 IMO is quite plausible. Especially in "OTHERS"

PS3 - 1
360 - 0

 good point. Wait till Gran Turismo 5 releases. I bet it will push 400,000+ consoles that week

This thread is full of humor. I love the fact that we are now back to the whole wait for (insert game) then the PS3 will really take off.

The ps3 has taken a huge hit this generation compared to last. No matter what the final numbers are the 360 has made large gains this generation compared to last while the ps3 .. compared to the ps2... *chuckle*

The real question is whether it can pass it at a time when anyone will give a damn. By 2016 (and likely 2012) all 3 companies will have moved on to their next console (and probably gearing up for the one after that) so the PS3 surpassing the 360 would be as significant as hearing the GameCube just passed the origibal XBox.

As for your other points:

1. "2009" is not "imminent". 2009 is after holiday sales, which is the crucial time. Once the holiday passes, the benefit to cutting in May '09 vs October '09 is minimal.

2. By next holiday, you can expect to see the 360 cut down more, or at least the low end model phased out with the Premium and Elite sliding down into the $199/$250 range. There is still plenty of room to cut, and the 360 doesn't have a blu-ray drive dragging on the price.

3.  Yes the games are coming, but when? Killzone 2 was supposed to be out last year, wasn't it? When will God of War actually reach the market? Or FF13?
