At this point, with the current trend, the PS3 will not pass the 360. The gap isn't getting smaller, it's growing. If you've looked at sales, you would see the 360 has sold better worldwide every week. Sony already had a long way to go outselling the system by 50K (it wouldn't reach it until lat 2010) and now, with 360 beating the system in the sales characters, it may never happen.

To look at some points
1)Price drop: It's kind of laughable becuase both systems have been in a price war. However, everytime it only helps sales slightly. A price drop for the PS3 will not help it gain a strong enough lead

2)Games. Only two games have pushed systems this generation on the HD systems. It was Metal Gear Solid 4 and Halo 3. Anyone saying God of War three needs their head examined. The game has sold over 3million at best and has sold 1million less with each new game. The game can not push systems. FF13 may, but since the US and Europe will get it for the 360, it probably wont make a large dent. It may solidify it in Japan, but it's more likely it will spike and come back down.

Truthfully, I can't see the PS3 beating the 360. Unless the trend shifts soon, the 360 will probably sell more boxes. Time is of the essence.

i hate to tell you this but for a system that is double the it is selling awfully well. remember how well the sales were for the PS3 with the last price cut. wait till it reaches 300 the sales will go crazy . i mean really after this christmas the 360 sales will go down they really can't go any lower with a great profits. if they won't buy it at a 200 then they won't buy it 150 either. also there is to be a PS3 slim will cause a major pricedrop. the 360 is at its peak. all it can do is fall

 

 360 peak has gone and passed the why is it YoY sales increasing? lol

If sony drops the price early next year they'll pick up some steam...but if they wait until late in the year MS could be in a position to eliminate the Arcade sku and make the pro sku the $199 model.

Who still says this? The gap has been growing ever since that price drop.

People have go to stop thinking that a game even GT5 will change the balance. Every single console sold before GT5 is one less potential sale because of GT5. When GT5 or FFXIII release the PS3 will have already sold around 30 million consoles. I swear if you are a regular on these forums you would be lead to believe that it is true that the PS3 will be at 30 million sold when GT5 releases, but none of the people that will purchase GT5 will have a PS3 already.

In reality the more consoles that have been sold the smaller the impact a game has. GT5 impact will be minimal. Even with a price reduction. Speaking of price reduction you can count on MS doing a price reduction as well when Sony does. The 360 is profitable at the current price point and the PS3 is not. The PS3 has been reduced $100 (some would say with some validity that the PS3 has dropped $200) and guess what although on the market a year longer the 360 has dropped $100 as well.

But R2 and LBP are both still big releases. They will both do well over 2 million worldwide. Is that not a big release?

If I was waiting to purchase a system based on FF13, I would pick the Xbox hands down. Mostly because of the game library and Xbox Live service.

IMO, the 360 will make sure they outsell the PS3 until Microsoft launches their next system. shortly there after, the PS3 will outsell the 360.

This is the worst case scenario for Sony.

It is hard to imagine the 360 to stay ahead of the PS3 forever. It just isn't rational thought.
