Forums - Nintendo - Favorite Wii FPS control scheme

I loved Red Steel personally, despite it's obvious short comings.

I really liked CoD3's control setup, not sure why so many people had a hard time with it.

Also, even though it's a TPS, Scarface has excellent shooting controls. Didn't care for the rest of the game. =P

The best controls so far for a fps, I would say Eledees. Medal of Honour had good controls too, Metroid 3 will become the new benchmark soon though.

About that Redsteel, did you know that IGN UK gave 80 points overall to that game?
RS lost points because of "outdated" graphics of the Wii, the game was hyped because of its swordfighting (this didn't live up to hype) and new controls, in which no one was yet used to.
But most people, who have played RS, have liked it, in fact more than 80% of who i have talked with about it.

ugh. red steel was terrible. The controls weren't even that bad. The game was just terrible. walk, shoot, repeat. If it wasn't released for Wii it would not have even been mentioned, luckily the novelty of having Wii controls turned it from a crappy game into a novel, but crappy game.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I also liked Red Steel. They had the right idea, but they didn't execute it properly thanks to the fact that it was rushed to release at launch.

Red Steel 2, if it really WILL be made, will have much more streamlined FPS controls, probably a larger arsenal of weaponry, and a VASTLY more complete multiplayer mode.

I wouldn't be surprised if Red Steel 2 turns out as a worthy successor to Goldeneye 007, in terms of fun and similarities as a FPS.

I would say Medal of Honor's controls so far. Whenever you are able to have as much customization as that you should be able to get it right. Now if it's shot recognition worked all the time...

But I also thought that the recenter button worked well.

AND yeah RE4 defiently not a FPS. TPS survival horrorific killing Spanish culters...I think that's it's offical genre. FYI culters is not a real word.

Wait for RE 5, it's a TPS survival horrific killing possessed africans

Wait until Metroid Prime 3 comes out... on advanced it's BETTER than PC Mouse / Keyboard Combo.

There, I said it...

Yeah it also has better graphics than Crisis and it's 500 hours long and it's harder than Ninja Gaiden and the games comes with a special Samus suit.

RE5 is not coming out on the Wii gamer9851................

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I'm with Omgwtfbbq on this one, I thought Red Steel was terrible. I really wanted to like this game too! It wasn't the controls or the graphics for me, but the entire presentation of the game.

So after your thought dead and save your babes father, she doesn't pay you any notice as you bust down the door with her pops for this whole five minute BS cut scene only to have her wave you on at the end?!

I really was looking forward to the sword fighting, but why can't I pull an Indiana Jones? I'm mean seriously do my guns suddenly not work when a sword or baseball bat is taken out?

I thought the turning controls were also very poor.

But I digress: Answering the original question I thought Medal of Honor Vanguard actually did a decent job with their controls. I had more fun with that game than I have since the first Medal of Honor, and Vanguard was mediocre at best.

Nice to get other peoples opinions. I am still playing Red Steel and enjoying it. Some of the presentation is great. Like the firefight in the financial districts mission, when you press the elevator button and suddemly a whole heap of enemies come running down the corridor. Hide behind a pillar and wait for them all to enter the room then open up with an Uzi. It is a tribute to The Matrix as all the pillars get blown apart and there are shards and bullets flying everywhere, fantastic!

But anyway I guess my point about the controls is that the Wii is so unique that it would be nice to see games come out with a choice of control setups. NFS Carbon did this well. I know some people who swear by using the nunchuk to steer and the wiimote as accelerator/brake whereas I like the wiimote tilt option using the 1 and 2 buttons as accelerator/brake. But at least we have the choice.
