for me it'd be

1. Metal Gear Solid 4 (yes, HANDS DOWN)

2. Little BIG Planet

3. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

4. Gears of War 1 (not 2) because 2 just improved on what originally was one of the top technical margins ANY generation had ever seen besides: PSONE and Final Fantasy VII

5. Dead Rising (the amount of enemies on the screen at once, for it's time, was a technical MASTERPIECE!!!

+9999

Why does everyone say GeoW2 >.< It was just a improvement i mean you should rather say 1 lol.

YES MGS4 WITHOUT EVEN THINKING.

What?

I would have to say it's close between MGS4, Gears 2 and Uncharted.

Seriously, where did you get Assassin's Creed from?

Keeping it strictly consoles, MGS4 easily.

Honorable mention: Assassins Creed.

Crysis.

Even if I don't like it, Wii Fit and some games that use the wii board.  It is a pretty huge technical achievement for bringng back full interation in the home.

Other noteables would be:

Wii Sports (interaction)

Rockband (interaction/multiplayer)

Crysis (graphically)

MGS4 (tons of features/graphics/A.I./ very enjoyable cutscenes)

GEOW 1 (1 started it all, 2 is very much so a polished extension, great series)

Uncharted (a.i  especially)

Conduit (getting the most out of a "inferior" system and proving it can be done)

Call of Duty 4 (hands down one of the best games ever made.  I don't know many who would argue against this)

Forza 2 (for even coming close to Gran turismo in quality/reality)

LBP (game mechanics are amazing, player supported levels = amazing and inovative, would rival the wii board/wii fit)

Too early to call but probably amazing:

RE5

Killzone (if it turns out to be anything like the beta, this game will set the standard for fps and multiplayerfps)

Gran turismo 5

I could add more but I think this is enough for now.  This is a good generation to own all 3 systems.

*Note: the reason why I dislike Wiifit is because you don't need a video game to do fitness.  It is almost a slap in the face when you meet someone and they say they do Yoga with wiifit and you have been practicing for over 7 years and they think they are even in the same realm of practice.  The game mostly provides the instant gratification most people are seeking but don't get from exercise.  Then again, what videogame doesnt supply a form of Instant gratification?  All personal angst aside... it is a technical achievement, and very popular at that.

I'm one of them. It certainly wasn't very technically stunning- the graphics were average, the AI wasn't great and the multiplayer is starting to get buggy.

Whats up with the MP?  I haven't played online in a few months and I rarely had issues with MP (aside from glitchers).  A.I. is average for any IW game but I think the graphics are a little better than average.  Technically speaking the game has set the gold standard for online multiplayer.

World of Goo
I've never seen gameplay like it before. even though it's a physics based game. LBP while excellent doesn't use physics in a new way. Just focusses it as a game play.

Assasins Creed
Never had a game where just about everything was climable and works well. Truly an acrobatics sandbox enviroment.

Spore
It's creators(buildings, vehicles, animals) by far one of the best. The rest of the game seemed little more than everything done before and better elsewhere.

Wii?
eh, while the Wii design in general will be our future. It's design to use just as new components, but towards the effeciency design gives it a far more technical achievement. If you follow the same path as before does the next step become and achievement.

@comment about disliking Wiifit.
That's fine, but honestly it's being used in a few hospitals for theraputic reasons. It's not the balance board that matters. It's the feedback. An oppertunity to know that your doing it right.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

MGS4. best graphics, best story, best cinematics, best V.O's = best game and biggest technical achievement.
