Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Square Enix Building U.S. Studio - Looking for 360 Developers

*sighs* Perhaps FF13 and VS13 are taking up quite a bit of their PS3 staff.... Perhaps they are still getting more dev's just to develop those 2 games.... Square Hasn't put out a PS3 game so far for the Entire gen.... perhaps they're still a bit rusty on developing games for the system???... who knows......

@soriku

thats because they have already layed the foundation for PS3 development thanks to the epic next generation experience game that is being designed for PS3....called Final Fantasy XIII

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

oh **** YEAH! More RPGs for my favorite console :P

Don't worry Playstation guys though, this means that there will be more SQEENIX games coming from the Japanese Studio as well.

WE ALL WIN! WOOHOO!!!

Ah, Valve, Sqeenix, EPIC, Lionhead, Bioware, even Namco Bandai are giving me my favorite games on 360. This gaming year has been amazing.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Not only is Square Enix bringing a wealth of software to the Xbox 360. But it is finally understanding the market. They will not get any profit if they stay exclusive to a platform that is underperforming against a platform that is surperior in the states, and thats the Xbox 360.

The Wii, well I don't know maybe they know some of their software might not do well considering what the Wii is targeting.

Then you can explain to me why Star Ocean 4, a game of a franchise that sells the most in Japan, is exclusive to 360... If they want to take advantage of the states, get the most out of Europe and not lose Japan, the title should be multiplatform...

Star Ocean 3 was arguably more successful in the West than it was in Japan. Many of the game press consider the Western sales of SO3 to be quite good. Star Ocean The Last Hope will also sell some 360s in Japan, especially if it gets a bundle like ToV and TLR. There is also several hints that indicate that SO has peaked in popularity in Japan during the PS1 era when SO2 came out and has been in a steady decline in Japanese popularity ever since wherea it seems to have been vice versa in the West where SO3 has been considered the first SO title to reach global popularity.

Star Ocean 2 sold 720k LTD with 374k in its first week, Star Ocean 3 sold 550k with 396k in its first week (and that was because some problems due to not playing in older PS2's, the directors cut that we received didn't have that problem, that's why it was a little more successful in the West), do you really think that Star Ocean 4 will pull those numbers in Japan??? my bet is 250,000 tops, and i'm willing to bet that SO4 will not pull a 750k on the US or EU... The best real bet for that game was going multiplatform...

Those SO2 sales are Japan alone.  SO4 could pull a 750K in the West like SO3 because popularity doesn't just fade away in 4 short years.  I think S-E is making sure SO4 does well in the West.

Yes, those are from Japan alone...

In the US, Star Ocean 3 topped 630k, and it launched with 28 million PS2s in the US alone, Star Ocean 4 will launch on a smaller 360 userbase (and how much of that userbase is into JRPG's that are not the really big ones???), i stand by my bet that it will not make 750k in the US... And i'm not even talking about Europe...

Yes, you're right, no way SO4 will sell 750k in NA alone, but you misunderstood what he meant.

"750k West" = NA + Europe

That is exactly what I said.  I didn't say 750K will be from the US alone but if the game does sell 750K in the West, most of it will come from the US.

Sorry, i thought you were talking about the US alone, because of my previous post about not topping 750k in the US or EU...

Still, that will prove my point, with combined western sales of 750k (i think it could get a little higher, but not a 1M), plus my prediction of 250k in Japan, Square will be losing money by not making it multiplatform...

I think 1 million WW would be fine for SOTLH since at most they only spent a little more than half of what FFXIII probably costs.  Besides, even if it doesn't make the amount of money they want it to, then they could just get a PS3 port made.

Well, I hope that this studio they are opening doesn't go the same way Ubisoft is going. In other words, creating the core games for the HD platforms and the casual games for the Wii.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Making hardcore games for HD consoles and casual games on Wii make sense because HD consoles are aimed at core gamers while Wii is aimed at casual gamers.

That's why I hope it doesn't happen, Riachu
